Not looted by the British? so... that would be none then? we have a habit of destroying cultures... and then moaning about others bringing theirs to us.
I've always liked my job working for a Jewish carpenter from a little village over in Israel.
I don't really expect I'll ever be rich, famous or "covered in gold-leaf" from being associated with Him, but that's OK because my retirement benefits are "out of this world"!
If some of us hadn't flown those bombers, son...(and been protected by Jesus), you probably wouldn't be writing this in English today ! Maybe it will all make sense to you someday...when you get a little more mature !!!
I agree with you, but I also say God bless the freedom we have to make fun and disrespect anything we damn well please. Buddhist monks are great people who would never mock another religion, but that doesn't mean we can't poke a little fun at there beliefs from time to time (and most of them wouldn't mind). It's the same reason I like to draw pictures of Muhammad and say swears like "baby Jesus butt plug!" God knows my heart, God knows I wish no harm on any person, he knows that even tho I can laugh at a racist or insensitive joke, that does not make me a bigot. If your heart is pure and you have love for all people, jokes should not hurt your feelings.
Any religion is silly if you think about it. Amazing to me that with all of the scientific knowledge and observation taking place in the world (i.e. birth of solar systems and planets being observed real time), that something like religion can still be considered by anyone over the age of 10.
Na, it makes since to me, because when you try to look past the big bang, we only have questions, no answers. Quantum theory suggests that there are places that do not observe time....thus making a God very possible. I think God my exist, but it's not like anything anyone has ever conceived. Either way, the idea of God has assisted us in our evolution. Of course now we see all the problems that religions produce, but we would still be in the stone age without it.
Wasting gold on a dead man (whoever he was) is beyond me. The gold could have been sold for money to buy food for starving people around the world. Now, that's REVERING!
Unlikely to have enough to make one ring, WO. Gold leaf is VERY thin. Those suggesting the gold should have been sold should consider.... it would bring about the equivalent of 50 quid at best. The money it generates from tourists will be vastly more and I expect, in Buddhist tradition, it will be used to alleviate hunger and poverty.
Geo Gal, did you happen to see john's profile icon? And while I hate all religion, a plaster replica of something &/or pretending wine is something else isn't even close to as disgusting as hanging onto & making art pieces out of cadavers. Not even in the ballpark.
Anyone who has an anti/Christian avatar has some serious mental issues. No, not because you're not one but because you feel the need to demonstrate your animosity toward the faith.
john, the only reason I can see this as being disgusting is that it may be a waste of gold and, I would not want this for me...I want to got back into the dirt ASAP. I want to return to the circle of life, as that is how I feel I will live on. Being stuck in a casket or frozen in carbonite like this fella, does not appeal to me...ideally I would be eaten by a lion. It would be cool to see this guy tho.
@ J... while I think your comment is for satirical, but the Buddha bless no one. The Buddha teaches you "the living philosophy", now it is your duty to live fully and rightfully.
Blort, I agree that it is a bit twisted how, as you say, some people must go out of their way to demonstrate their animosity toward others. Like how many "faithful" must demonstrate their animosity towards non-conforming people.
The #$%$ hated Jew, Gypsies and gays. Today in the U.S., we hate Muslims, Mexicans and Gays.
So you are right as long as you don't think it only applies to Christians.
Christians aren't suppose to hate anyone...the word Christian meas "Christ follower"...if you are a "Christ follower" then you try to act like Jesus...Jesus did not pass judgement on the weak and the poor. He hung out with tax collectors and prostitutes, people seen as the worst sinners of there day . He encouraged his followers to obey the laws of the land, and to look inward at your own problems rather than calling other people out on there problems. "Remove the log from your own eye before you worry about the splinter in your neighbors eye" Christians in America just don't behave this way. They have no idea what it means to be a Christian. I blame how safe and comfortable our nation is. People are at there best when times are at there worst, and when things are easy, we become glutinous and selfish.
I am not a tourist. In fact, I have been a resident of China for 27 years. I have a university degree in Chinese, and I speak, read, and write Chinese fluently. I consider myself a Buddhist; though, an atheist Buddhist. I still find the above Buddhist mummy disgusting.
I find it disgusting because they took a human, mummified it, and set it up as an object of worship. I am a Buddhist, but I am an atheist Buddhist, like Sakyamuni was. When Buddhism came to China, the Chinese placed their polytheistic beliefs on an originally atheistic philosophy.
I like to annoy Christians too, but isn't it more fun to annoy Muslims? They have the largest reactions to satire, thus making them the most fun to mock.
I came in the comment section thinking I'd see a lot of people in awe, wonder, and love... but clearly I'm looking in the wrong place for that. It's a shame we can't see a little bit of respect for this monk and what he and his others practiced and stood for.
Om Mani Padme Hum: Compassion arises when the jewel of the mind rest in the lotus of the heart. Practice mindfulness, breathe, and find your Buddha nature inside of you, your true home. Peace love and good vibes!
Okay... Hey, um... Chinese people? "Gold plated monk" is, like, definitely an oxymoron, okay? This superficial, materialism thing is getting out of hand...
