这座让人眩晕的建筑位于中国中部张家界森林公园的武陵源风景区。

Named 'hundred dragons sky lift', the £13mn project transports visitors to the top of the cliff in less than two minute[CN]

被命名为:百龙天梯,耗资 £13mn,不到2分钟就能运送游客到悬崖顶部。

It had reportedly been shut down due to safety concerns, but has attracted a cult following since its re-opening[CN]

据报道,这里曾经因为安全问题被关闭,但自重新开放以来,吸引了不少粉丝(/a cult following:信徒般的追随者/)。

The popular tourist area is also set to open the world's longest glass-bottomed walkway in the coming month[CN]

胆小者慎入!

For some people, the fun of mountain climbing lies in the satisfaction of conquering endless stairs and walking through unspoiled forest; but for others, it's all about the views from the top.[CN]

有些人乐于享受攀登和徒步原始森林的乐趣,有些人就为了山顶一览众山小的愉悦。

If you happen to be the latter, then this impressive observation lift in China could be your dream attraction.[CN]

如果你恰好属于后者,这座电梯就最适合你了。

Get ready for the ride of your life: The £13mn project took three years to build and has attracted a large number of tourists to the area[CN]

准备好你的旅程:

The towering structure, poetically named 'hundred dragons sky lift', is the showpiece of the scenic area in Zhangjiajie Forest Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The incredible observation elevator, which is taller than The Shard, can transport visitors to the top of a 1,070-foot-tall cliff (362 metres) from its foot in less two minutes.

According to People's Daily Online, the £13 million (120 million Yuan) project claims to be the highest and heaviest outdoor elevator in the world.

To top that, it has set three Guinness World Records: the world's tallest full-exposure outdoor elevator, the world's tallest double-deck sightseeing elevator and the world's fastest passenger elevator with biggest carrying capacity, according to the same article.

The structure is composed of three separate glass elevators, each of which can carry up to 50 people at a time.

This means, up to 1,400 tourists get to experience the stomach-churning ride which offers a sweeping views across Zhangjiajie's renowned sandstone pillars, thought by some to be the inspiration of the 'floating peaks' in Avatar.

Are these the 'floating peaks'? The forest park in Hunan Province is thought by some to be the inspiration of the planet Pandora in Avatar

Work began on the lift in 1999 and finished three years later.

It has been reported that service was halted temporarily due to safety concerns shortly after its opening.

But the lift reopened in 2003 and now has a cult following from tourists keen to experience one of the most terrifying lifts in the world for its sheer drop views down to the bottom of the valley.

Those whose fear of heights prohibits them from taking the lift can instead take a two-and-a-half hour walk up the valley.

The Zhangjiajie, a 3,670-square-mile forest park in Hunan Province, is also building what they call the world's longest glass-bottomed walkway.

The breath-taking bridge, which stretches a quarter-of-a-mile above a 980-foot-deep canyon, is set to open to the public in May.

Made in China? I'll give it a while to let other people test it out first, thanks.

China has some beautiful scenery. It's such a shame they abandoned their ways and followed the forked tongues ones. Now their beautiful country is going to be covered in concrete with slaves running back and forth in a pointless hurry - just like here.

So you like to see a China falling a century behind. They will love to do that if there is/are/was/were hypocritic nations to act as a druglord dumping opium and having looted China's treasure .... deserves a book on that. Pathetic souls.

Hi, hypocrites. With respect of defying nature, what is the difference between cable cars and such elevator apart from one designed by westeners and one by Chinese? Both help tourists to reach the top faster and easier. May I call you all hypocrites?

Terrifying? Definitely. Because of the height? No. Because of where it was MADE.

Everything made in USA in very unreliable - cars, fighter planes, space ship, M16 guns and just about anything by yankees.

Chinese stuff - the cheap stuff, can be junk, just like our cheap stuff. I had a Chinese TV that refused to die and didn't require a service in almost 20 years (and I wanted an excuse to buy a flat screen). Their quality builds are just that, quality - reliable and functional. You don't launch space missions and build military equipment without being able to produce quality. What you are really saying is that you have only ever seen their junky stuff (which is as crappy as our junk).

Wouldn't get me on it, if it was produced locally. Death trap.

I'm not too sure about this. China hasn't exactly got a good track record, health and safety-wise, when it comes to building things.

Don't be daft, almost the same. You know exactly what I meant. Let me explain in a little more detail.. Industrial and civil engineering accidents occur almost daily in China. Last year there was the Tianjin warehouse explosion, a landslide buried a mining camp in Shaanxi Province killing 7 and leaving 57 missing, a gas explosion in a coal mine in Guizhou Province killed 13 people. a fertiliser plant in Sichuan Province sprung a leak, exposing entire area to toxic ammonia gas, resulting in no less than 10,000 people being evacuated. A leak at a chemical factory in Shanxi Province killed 8, a chemical plant in Zhangzhou that was recently lauded by the government as a ¿model of good mass work¿ exploded, causing the relocation of 29,000 people. And an auto parts factory ignited in Kunshan, killing more than 75 people and seriously injuring 186 others. I rest my case, m'lud!

Glass? Apart from the windows in the lift cars themselves, it looks distinctly like a metal structure to me (and a bit of a blot on the landscape where it's located as well).....

It's not terrifying at all. It's far safer and smoother than apartment elevators.

After all the thought they put into this project why didn't they design the elevators so that folks in the back could see out better? Much like bleachers at a ball park maybe? For that reason alone I give this attraction a fail as why ride the elevator if you can't see out of it for the view?
