Why don't they rear herds of elephants like we raise herds of cows and cattle - it would appear most of the elephant would command a high price and not a lot would go to waste - ivory, hide, feet, and surely the meat would be useful? You don't often hear of cattle poachers - problem solved - no need for more gruesome DiM stories.bobblechopper
Think abit more yin yan, double edged sword,a different perspective and leave your abrahamisms in your abrahamic world.Bird Brain
If we want humane killing of elephants or indeed any other animals, we should legalise it and regulate it in the same way we regulate the slaughter of cow, chicken, sheep etc,. Driving it underground to the action of the poachers will always end in such brutal and inhumane killing.Dailymale
Hyprocrisy is part of human nature. I wonder what the response would be to the average DM reader if the 1.25 billion Indians knew how cruelly their sacred Cows are being slaughtered for leather? The average DM reader would object and demand their rights to nice leather shoes, leather car seats as standard, leather wallets, bags etc! How many average DM readers own leather Sofa's? I bet 90% do! So the argument of rearing elephants for their skin is equally as valid.bobblechopper
Anyone who eats meat of any kind or uses any product derived all or in part from any animal of any kind is from a different perspective a hypocrite. And blinkered hypocrisy makes one feel superior as ignorance is bliss.Signed Integer
And yet there is more media outrage when a random hunter shoots a trophy and gives the meat to the locals. The trade in exotic animal parts for Far Eastern medicine is doing much more damage to wildlife.
