Irianita Rojas Rasma, 22, from north-eastern Peru, looked pregnant due to the mass - which caused her constant pain and meant she had to leave both school and her job.
After the Peruvian health minister, Anibal Velasquez, visited her town and heard her story he immediately ordered his staff to bring her to a hospital in Lima for surgery to remove it.

People who comment and say why wasn't it removed earlier, or ignorantly say things like 'typical China' should understand not every country has free medical care like the NHS. If you have to pay for every treatment and operation and you can't afford it, then it is just left to get worse. We are lucky not to have to pay for treatment so anything that needs surgery will be removed before it gets as bad as this, therefore, labelling it as a China thing is very ignorant. Let's just count our blessings we don't have to pay in the UK.[CN]
