Hawking's life is based around money, he has no concept of patriotism, protecting our culture or our history. He thinks along the lines of a Cameron Tory, it's all about the money. He's not that bright after all.

He is a very clever man, but not if he thinks the ordinary guy in the street is willing to give up his sovereignty and sign up to be dominated by the EU autocrats just so that scientists can keep their grants or move to Cologne University without a visa!

Presumably he thinks the money should be donated to build ever larger "Hadron" type colliders so that he and others like him can pursue their dream of theoritical physics by finding smaller and smaller particles ad-infinitum. These vanity projects are the equivalent to the Theological argument of how many angles can dance on a pin head, ultimatly rather pointless if taken to these extremes.

Incidentally, if you compare the distribution of wealth on this planet today to ANY time in the past, you'll find it is more equal now than it had EVER been. For example, there have never been so many people living above the poverty line in India and China than right now.

Partly true. However the distribution of wealth has gone into reverse. The difference of pay between the highest pay and the lowest, in most companies, is greater than it has ever been, thanks to huge bonuses and pensions at the top irrespective of performance. I call that greed. There are more billionaires than ever. How many billions and yatchts do you need? Why don't they charge less for their products, make less profit, pay their taxes so everybody else would be better off. It is simple greed. And yes, it will eventually. ruin our society and surely technology will kill humanity. We need to press the pause button and think about the long term consequences.
