I broadly agree with the researchers, but am a bit surprised they haven't mentioned that other deadly killer - Religion. Nothing else sets societies apart like differing religious beliefs, and wars over religion.Misfit
one blip in the food chain in europe ect and its doom. These shops like tescos restock every day. Can you imagine if they didnt stock for a week. The cities would burn..riots and theft within a few days. Nados is closed, star bucks have no coffee..death is coming..At least out of the citieswe have a better chance..a larger part of society is narcissistic, hypocritical and going backwards. Its also written that mass immigration causes collapse of cultures and society..as happened in rome..Free from socialism
When you have a small island that environmental experts say can sustain a population of between 47 to 55 million people with damaging the environment, causing dissent or overcrowding and those people share common cultural values that island will thrive. But when that population rises to 20% over what the island can sustain and the common cultural values are fractured that island is in deep trouble.beerlover
in order to maintain itself a peoples need a child ratio of at least 2.3 children per couple, in western Europe/ usa its only 1.9 . in Belgium its as low as 1.6 - a position no nation has ever recovered from. among the European immigrants its over 4. most of Europe will be m..... by 2070, Belgium will have a majority by 2045. this is how a civilisation fallsFree from socialism
If your land can sustain a population of people so that everyone gets fed., housed and employed and has room to live , and that population has a set of common values, cultural and religious beliefs it will thrive. But if the population rises above what the land can sustain without damaging the environment, or the population becomes culturally fragmented and divided, and you have more people taking resources than adding to resources that society is doomed.apockalips
I find this subject very interesting because all civilisations have collapsed within a few hundred years of their rise and today we now have a single global civilisation so what will happen to us? The environment is very unlikely to be an issue for our current technology levels. Years ago destruction of the local environment was a problem because they needed it to survive. We "don't", we just build industrial farms. So we may devastate the natural environment but we will survive. Our civilisation is more likely to collapse through a quick shock breakdown in the economy. That could be triggered by a global banking collapse, the loss of electronics or a signifcant war. There is also a longer term decline seen by earlier civilisations where they just stagnate and peter out, primarily due to ineffective government.
