Donald Trump threw a new kind of jab at Hillary Clinton Thursday night, combining his criticism of her negotiating ability with his longstanding mockery of her health.

Thursday in Cincinnati, Ohio, he told a crowd estimated at 20,000 that she was incapable of confronting China's tough dealmakers, saying that Beijing is too 'tough' for her to handle.

'You know, when she's over in China, if she goes down in Tienanmen square, they'll just leave her there. They're tough people.'

'They're just gonna leave her there. They're not gonna help her up. They'll say, "Let her come up when she's ready." These are tough people.'

Clinton collapsed during a 9/11 memorial service in New York City last month, following a pneumonia diagnosis, leading Trump to charge that she lacked the physical stamina to be president.

'She doesn't have the strength, she doesn't have the aptitude, she doesn't have what it takes if we're going to be a great country again. That I can tell you, 100 per cent,' Trump said.

Trump railed against his Democratic opponent as a criminally corrupt politician who has conspired to 'smear' him with allegations of sexual misconduct against a series of women.

'She is a corrupt person. She should not be allowed to run for the presidency,' he declared, as the familiar 'Lock her up!' chant shook the rafters of the US Bank Arena.

Trump, who typically responds to that cheer by counseling his base to 'defeat her on November 8,' instead joined in.

'She should be locked up. She should,' he said, drawing a sternum-rattling cheer.

'And if I win, I am going to ask my attorney general to appoint a special prosecutor to look into her crimes. Because what she did is a disgrace to the United States of America.'

Trump took the stage as the patriotic country tune 'I'm Proud to be an American' played, just minutes after former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani finished his warmup speech.

A technical crew dimmed the entire arena and swept a pair of spotlights as the Republican nominee entered, as much sports hero as politician.

Moments earlier, though, the entrance of his traveling press corps drew boos and insults as the group Trump derides as 'dishonest reporters' were jeered like a visiting hockey team.

'Tell the truth! Tell the truth!' about 5,000 people shrieked.

Trump began his speech where he began his day, steeped in a series of sex-abuse accusations all of which he says are invented and baseless.

He said for the third time in a single day that the Clinton 'machine' and a compliant national press were conspiring to destroy his candidacy rather than allow an issue-oriented debate.

Trump said he would continue to expose 'the lies, corruption and false accusaitons of the crooked Hillary Clinton campaign and the mainstream media which they control and use quite viciously.'

'They want to distract us from Wikileaks,' he said, citing thousands of private emails – including some politically embarrassing messages – hacked from Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta's personal account.

'They want to keep us from talking about the issues. We're not going to let that happen,' he said.
