There are more than 40 wildlife and big cat sanctuaries in Texas with active breeding programs. Many of these also have reintroduction programs so the tigers can be reintroduced into the wild. There are almost no tigers being kept as pets by anyone other than Mexican drug cartel members who have them as status symbols and they are illegal to own as pets in virtually every city in Texas, including Houston. That's why the owner of this tiger hasn't come forward to claim what is obviously an extremely expensive pet, they have committed a felony and face years in prison for having her.[CN]
