Oh I see....while women in poor countries will sometimes HAVE to give birth this way (probably wishing they were in a hospital being cared for), you just treat it like some luxury that you MUST do. Wishy washy tw at....

OMG she's the definition of hippy trippy. The entire thing made me uncomfortable. Why on earth would you do that in front of your friends AND small children (probably traumatising the kids) and then upload it to youtube for every stranger to watch. She put her baby and herself in danger needlessly as well as the amount of infection she could have picked up from that creek, but hey it'll all be okay because she's a doula!!! SMH! And having a placenta smoothie? YUCK!!!!

All I can think about is how much those stones would hurt my feet.

No need for the world to see this. We all know how it works. Not only is she a fool for having the ego to broadcast this online, she is stupid for putting the health of herself and her baby at risk by having no medical support present.

Who cares about her she chose to do it and put her life in that situation but the poor baby didn't have a choice. She was very very lucky in that respect.

Give me a hospital bed, gas and air followed by a warm soapy shower and tea and toast over a cold stream and pebbles any day.

Many years ago I drank out of a stream like that, afterwards I walked two hundreds yard upstream and found a dead sheep floating in a pool, 24 hours later I became so violently ill I needed hospital treatment.

so your giving birth in the stream and some open sores meanwhile 200 yrs upstream a cow or roo is crapping in the water. you got lucky lady that you or the baby did nit get infections or the child had no problems.and yes it was necessary years ago but even in old days they had midwifes. eighteenth-century rural England, where maternal mortality averaged 25 per 1000 births infant 140 out of 1000 live birthtoday it is less than 10 per 1000 for both

I really don't understand why people need to share everything. The two main occupations today is cell phone game playing and displaying everything to the entire world.

This was never about her baby but all about her. Why else would you risk your baby to all the potential bacteria/protozoal infections found in streams etc! A non hospital birth is one thing but this was a bit too far! The irony being the women who don't have a choice and would love nothing more than a maternity hospital to give birth in!!

You're an American with access to a hospital, insist on giving birth in a stream, bury your placenta as a way of "giving back to mother Earth" and you name your baby "Perouze"? Yes lady, you are maximum hippy drippy.

I get that she wanted a birth away from a clinical setting and a natural birth outside with nature, but really in a dirty stream!!!

Is nothing private anymore?

She was bloody lucky the baby didn't contract Giardia being dumped out in that grubby stream. I picked it up in Brazil a few years back, it's beyond miserable and potentially deadly to an infant.

Why oh why do people feel the need to show the world such a personal private thing . Viewed mainly no doubt by wierdos who got off on the whole thing - Worries me !

It doesn't sound extraordinary to me. It sounds foolish and selfish. The goal of childbirth is a healthy baby - not to fulfill some personal bucket list. What was her back up plan if something went wrong ?

For everyone saying 'It's childbirth, it's natural' - Yes, childbirth is a natural thing, and yes since the beginning of time women have been giving birth naturally without medical assistance - but back then it was also very common to die during or after labour. Giving birth to a child is only 'safe' because medical advances have made it so. Whilst I understand and support women making their own decisions when it comes to delivery - this is not something that should be encouraged. She is very lucky she had a healthy delivery, not every woman would be this lucky.

Hope she checked the stream for pollutants before she subject her newborn to a mouthful of germs.

I can't think of anything more selfish than giving birth the way this woman has done in the Daintree forest, the home of crocodiles, Taipan snakes, Eastern Brown, and death adders, to name a few of the dangers, apart from her self imposed ones! and as for it being an intimate moment between her and her daughter...........what a joke! It may well have been if she hadn't posted it for all in sundry to see, just so she could say "look at me, aren't I clever" which she was not ,on so many levels!
