We have water filtration services in 2016...wasn't sure you were aware back there in the Middle Ages where you are so obviously stuck ?

In Australia, we actually don't drink from streams.

Actually no they don't. The creek is not near any drinking water or people who need to drink from a creek. I would never do what she did, especially at such a risky age, but if you're going to criticise her do it about something actually true, like that her other children didn't need to see that, or that she risked her baby's life because she believes being a doula gives her the qualifications to deliver a baby, especially her own, safely if something went wrong, or that she loads the video on youtube for "her partner" and then is surprised that more than just him sees it. There are many reasons to criticise her but that isn't one of them or I'd be right there with you!

Who does? Do you think if you put a sign up, then all animals would stop urinating in the stream, or in the soil nearby?! Of course not.

My objection is the risk this put her baby in. The blood and other fluids she spilled are NOTHING compared to the things already in the water that could harm her or her child. This woman is simply a nut job.

Hope she cleaned up the mess afterwards. Wouldn't want to be the unfortunate person to have a swim there!

So long as mother and baby are doing well, this does not bother me.

The problem is all the other mothers who inexplicably think this is a great idea, and jeopardise their own and their children's health.

Child was safely delivered, no story here, how did we deliver babies 100s or 1000s of years ago?
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
JesusLovesMeReply toJohn-Lucas
What choice did they have then? We have a choice now. I know what I'd choose.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
BachyReply toJohn-Lucas
And more importantly, what was the rate of infant or mother mortality when we did deliver babies the old way?
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
MargaretReply toJohn-Lucas
There were also a lot of mother and child fatalities then.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
djs.specsReply toJohn-Lucas
The fact that one woman was able to successfully freebirth her child in a potentially filthy creek doesn't mean we should completely forget how modern medicine has enabled women to give birth without a sizeable risk of her, her baby or both of them dying.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
SnoffaReply toJohn-Lucas
What you mean, when infant mortality was high and women regularly died in childbirth?
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
SydneyjaneReply toJohn-Lucas
Higher maternal and infant mortality...
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
BobAustReply toJohn-Lucas
With a 50% death rate for mothers. Nature - she's rough on women. That's the story, that naive women will forego medical care to possibly die unnecessarily.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
ArmyChickReply toJohn-Lucas
That's not the point. The death rate during child birth before modern medicine was extremely high. Some women like this clown take it for granted. My grandmother who lost her youngest son during childbirth would have given an arm and a leg to have him alive. She lived in a poor country and couldn't afford proper medical care.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
daisy chainReply toJohn-Lucas
She could have died giving birth or the baby could have had medical complications itself without proper supervision. As for the remark that babies were delivered like this thousands of years ago, how many survived and how many mother's survived, giving birth to them?
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
LeeWReply toJohn-Lucas
Pretty much the same way however infant mortality rates were far higher.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
TomReply toJohn-Lucas
And how many died at these times? She can choose to have her baby any-way she wants and if it works out great, but if it goes wrong medical intervention can and does save lives.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
LolexplosmReply toJohn-Lucas
With a great risk of mortality for both parent and child of course.

Not in streams! Any idea how much bacteria (just to name one possible contaminate) there is in are in streams and lakes? Animals drink from that same stream. This newborn has zero immunities. She's an idiot!

PrettysureReply toJohn-Lucas
I imagine that even though they had home births 100's of years ago there must have been 'midwives' My mother who was born in 1920 in India talked about midwives being a women in the community who had given birth themselves.

I'm afraid the risk outweighs the "necessity" to do this in this day and age. I would never allow my child to be put at this unnecessary risk.

I wouldn't video my labors- but, somehow I ended up naked both times I labored. I wanted to be more dignified- so I don't know how it happened, but I couldn't stand anything touching me, so I think it's more common/normal than you might think.

She uploaded the video to you tube and then says she's shocked. Come on lady what did you expect was going to happen, well at least you've now had your 15 mins of fame.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
k2828Reply toCurzon
She also says it was a "very intimate moment" for her and the baby. Then don't upload it to the internet, keep it private. Stop looking for your 15 minutes.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
kristennikcoReply toCurzon
Maybe she posted it for her family to see? Not everyone posts a video expecting it to go viral.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
NaomiDePlumeReply toCurzon
If she was posting it for her family, she would have set it to private, not public. She also had the option of taking it down once she realised it was getting numerous views.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
Pert DerriereReply toCurzon
Why should she take it down? If she's proud and still exhilarated by the birth experience, why not let others see?
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
pianochick68Reply toCurzon
^Using that same logic, you'd be ok with videos of serial killers strangling their victims because they're "proud and exhilarated by the experience."

pianochick68......we do get the abhorrent vision of murder (isis)!!!!!So you put the act of child birth to loving parents on the same level ?What does that say of your logic.

Disgusting individual, Contaminates a stream with afterbirth & human blood, then goes on to expose a new born baby to possible Amebic contamination from river water.

That's nice but if I had done this when my son was born he would have been dead as there were complications so he was delivered by emergency c-section. Yes, women have been giving birth for thousands of years, but a lot of them and their babies didn't survive. I'm sure given the option they would've preferred to have access to the medical care we have now. Anyway, it's parental choice but I personally would rather not take the risk. My baby's life would be more important than being at one with nature.

You gave birth in a stream, named your baby girl "Perouze" and then drank some of the placenta in a smoothie!? But you proclaim you are not a hippy drippy mum. Ha! You are such a hippy drippy mum! The epitome of one!

Another horrible exhibitionist seeking 15 minutes of fame at the expense of her baby's life. The baby looked cyanotic (blue) and she predisposed him to unnecessary bacteria that could have been harmful or even fatal. Shame on this woman!
