Actually no they don't. The creek is not near any drinking water or people who need to drink from a creek. I would never do what she did, especially at such a risky age, but if you're going to criticise her do it about something actually true, like that her other children didn't need to see that, or that she risked her baby's life because she believes being a doula gives her the qualifications to deliver a baby, especially her own, safely if something went wrong, or that she loads the video on youtube for "her partner" and then is surprised that more than just him sees it. There are many reasons to criticise her but that isn't one of them or I'd be right there with you!

Who does? Do you think if you put a sign up, then all animals would stop urinating in the stream, or in the soil nearby?! Of course not.

My objection is the risk this put her baby in. The blood and other fluids she spilled are NOTHING compared to the things already in the water that could harm her or her child. This woman is simply a nut job.

The problem is all the other mothers who inexplicably think this is a great idea, and jeopardise their own and their children's health.

There were also a lot of mother and child fatalities then.

The fact that one woman was able to successfully freebirth her child in a potentially filthy creek doesn't mean we should completely forget how modern medicine has enabled women to give birth without a sizeable risk of her, her baby or both of them dying.

With a 50% death rate for mothers. Nature - she's rough on women. That's the story, that naive women will forego medical care to possibly die unnecessarily.

That's not the point. The death rate during child birth before modern medicine was extremely high. Some women like this clown take it for granted. My grandmother who lost her youngest son during childbirth would have given an arm and a leg to have him alive. She lived in a poor country and couldn't afford proper medical care.

She could have died giving birth or the baby could have had medical complications itself without proper supervision. As for the remark that babies were delivered like this thousands of years ago, how many survived and how many mother's survived, giving birth to them?

Pretty much the same way however infant mortality rates were far higher.

And how many died at these times? She can choose to have her baby any-way she wants and if it works out great, but if it goes wrong medical intervention can and does save lives.

With a great risk of mortality for both parent and child of course.

I imagine that even though they had home births 100's of years ago there must have been 'midwives' My mother who was born in 1920 in India talked about midwives being a women in the community who had given birth themselves.

I wouldn't video my labors- but, somehow I ended up naked both times I labored. I wanted to be more dignified- so I don't know how it happened, but I couldn't stand anything touching me, so I think it's more common/normal than you might think.

Why naked?? She was having a baby! What did you want - full on evening gown? Silly comment!

She also says it was a "very intimate moment" for her and the baby. Then don't upload it to the internet, keep it private. Stop looking for your 15 minutes.

Maybe she posted it for her family to see? Not everyone posts a video expecting it to go viral.

If she was posting it for her family, she would have set it to private, not public. She also had the option of taking it down once she realised it was getting numerous views.

Why should she take it down? If she's proud and still exhilarated by the birth experience, why not let others see?

You're right especially older mothers and this woman looked much older, anything could have went wrong giving birth in nature.

Also risk of infection from the stream.
