Sir Guppy.
A long time ago I saw the russian VC10 arrive at Heathrow, as the plane slowed a prop came out of tail end. The russian engines were so heavy the plane would sit on it's back end. Armed guard on the door just in case we stole their technology.!!

I remember LOT Polish Airlines flying those onto O'Hare in Chicago... Same size as a B727 but like you say the tail was so heavy it needed a tail jack..

I think there is only one nation that will not hesitate with using nuclear weapons against another state... And we all know which one it is

So this is a FAKE article created by the media team of Reaction Engines to try to drum up some investment. At least the Russia / WW3 scare is a new one for them - they've been trying to tell everyone that they could take over the satellite launch business for years - even though the development costs alone would outweigh the benefits even if the could capture 100% of the market. Desperate publicity lies.

But they will have no base to fly back to as total annihilation will follow! If the Russian's are indeed developing this I can imagine Uncle Sam is two step ahead already. They've things fling around the globe for a while now if you're to believe the press. It will always be a case of cancelling each other out - IMHO

Hope idiots like Corbyn who want to do away with our nuclear deterrent are taking note.

Noted that this is a really bad way to deliver a nuclear weapon.

All this effort and money to murder, yes it is murder, billions of people. What is wrong with these power crazed politicians the world over.

Putin is a leftover from the old KGB days, he has little vision other than a technologically modern version of the old USSR.

We should encourage Russia in these efforts. Such pie-in-the-sky military spending is one of the reasons the USSR collapsed in 1989. The world already has enough nuclear missiles to kill everyone on the planet. One more is not going to make any difference...........cheers

Stealth nuclear missiles is the way to go, USA probably all ready got them?

The USA has the Aurora pulse engine project which has been kept heavily under wraps for decades, plus the UK has it's own secret propulsion system developments......What Russia has is nothing special, it's just that they have stuck their head over the parapet.....!

the usa and the western powers are to blame for this, they keep trying to push russia in a corner, of course they can fight back and will some day.

To be fair, Russia does have expansionist ambitions from time to time and has done for a long time. They will never build this because it's impractical anyway.

I saw a program on the Yesterday channel recently, it said Russian scientists put forward a program in the 50s to build an H bomb so big on a ship with that much fissionable material on board; it would wipe out all life on earth it was designed to trigger automatically if there was any radiation fall out detected over Russia . Even premier Khrushchev declined to implement it.

Sounds like you overheard someone talking about the file "Dr. Strangelove" when you were a kid and thought they were talking about something real. Actually after about 50 Megatons TNT equiv, H bombs are less effective. This is because they blast a layer of the atmosphere into space. 50MT and under keep the explosive effect in the atmosphere (i.e. the explosive force bounces back to earth and is not wasted in space). So while easy to do (just put lots of fusionable material around a standard H bomb) there is really no point in making a very large H bomb.

CSAR Bomba had a 150 Megaton capability but was dialed down to 50 Megaton due to fears of upper atmospheric damage and the acknowledged uselessness of such a weapon.
