The teacher who said it is about logic is correct, not the teacher who said it was about counting (not a mathematics teacher obviously). The questions are teaching logic (and sets or groups). We know the answers to 1) and 2) - they are about the odd one out, not counting their bits. 3) uses the same logic - therefore the odd one out is the chicken. It has nothing to do with how many legs it has, it has to do with grouping similar things with an odd one out. Children will get 1) right so if they use the same logic, they will get 2) right. Then using the same logic they should get 3) right although it is a bit more difficult. My children in Austraila also learned this in Grade One, but just to be certain, I checked with my husband who is a mathematics professor.[CN]

Chicken has no ears[CN]

Oh my god really? The chicken is different because it has feathers and the rest have fur and they are mammals. The stupidest way to get attention is post this online.[CN]

It could be the kitten because it is the only pet.[CN]

@Tobe I agree that the cat is a viable answer but not because its the only pet. Plenty of people have rabbits as pets.[CN]

Rabbits and pigs are often kept as pets. Pigs will eat meat as well as vegetables as well. However, based on the drawings Rabbit may be a valid answer because it's the only animal possessed by satan.[CN]

What has a fish got to do with the matter at hand? Do at least TRY to pay attention even though you are only a septic.

Chicken because it's not a mammal. How can "the internet" not see that?

The chicken, all of the others are mammals.

Chicken as it is the only one that isn't a mammal.

Seriously? 4 of these animals are mammals, the other is a bird. Duh!

Actually the chicken is classified as a reptile

@el loro loco Actually you are the one who clearly failed biology. Chickens are classed as reptiles why don't you google it before you try to be a smart ass

One of them is not a mammal. Gee that was hard.

Er . . . one of the creatures in not a mammal, so does not give birth to live young or suckle them with milk. Does not walk on four legs, has feathers rather than fur or hair. If these are not big enough clues, why do we have educationalists and politicians extolling Chinese education, when a two or three year old pre school British child and their parents would know instinctively?

At your local pub, is cat on the menu? Don't think many 2-3 year olds in the UK have eaten cat.

@KingRichard36, Have you heard that song by Wierd Al Yankovitch, based on Harry Chapins "Cat in the cradle"? The one that starts with the line "The cat's in the kettle at the Peking Moon"

Yeah, the chicken has two legs and is a bird. The others have four legs and are mammals. This is hard?

Apparently, it's difficult for a Daily Mail reporter

Show this to someone who is not familiar with American culture at all: candied yams, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, a pumpkin pie, a roast turkey, and a banana split. Which one of these things does not belong? A non-American could be highly confused by this because they are all edible. One is meat, and so the person might pick the turkey. However, Americans and people familiar with their traditions would know that the correct answer is the banana split. Why? Because the rest are foods that typically comprise part of a Thanksgiving meal.

It's also correct to assume it's bc the chicken was the only one with feathers.

Chicken only one with 2 legs. Also in relation to the other possible answers a person would only know those with knowledge outside the picture.

Fur and feathers, a good observation, also diet is another. The cat is a carnivore.

Chicken. Two feet. Feathers.

I deduced it was the chicken but bc it's the only one with feathers.
