I have a whistle and believe me that works, never hear from them again. The ways in the article do not work and the do not call list is a joke.

Good grief...

It's simple:

1. Ask for the callers name.

2. Ask the caller if the call is being recorded.

3. Ask to be removed from the list as you are on the DNC list.

4. Hang the Eff Up.

All the rest of this is utter BUNK designed by a so-called journalist who needs to meet his AOL required quota of FILLER.

The National Do-Not-Call Registry is a joke.

This adveertisement is a scam. I can't believe that AOL has allowed it to be a feature. Shame

Most telemarketers are already down on their luck, doing a job they hate because they are desperate. Some are also handicapped. My father was always rude and nasty to them, but it doesn't hurt to be kind when you say no. I once had a job requiring me to call people who didn't want to be bothered, and it can eally make a difference when people treat you with a modicum of respect.

You don't have the right to invade someone else's space and someone else's time and someone else's privacy no matter how hard up you are. We all go through difficulties and we don't impose them on other people. I have zero obligation to be polite to someone who invades my phone.

these tips will help out the telemarketer as well....huh?

I called my senator, Boxer, and told the person answering the phone I have been registered on the "do not call list" for some time and I was still getting calls. I said the legislation Boxer created and passed to create the "National do not call registry" is full of loop holes and it is not working and she needs to fix it. Guess what? She blocks my calls now.
My tax dollars hard at work!

This story is absolutely useless, Telling them to put you on their no-call list is a joke and they don't care if you are on the national list or not, Best just to hang up when they start their spiel.

I just don't even answer the phone if I don't recognize the number. if it is important they will leave a message, if not? oh well. I could care less about saving a telemarketer time.

I don't have caller ID, partly because I don't know the numbers of most people who might call me, and I'd have to have a list hung up beside the phone with all of them on it.....in fairly large numbers so I could read them quickly! I'd even have to look up my kids' numbers most of the time because they call me rather than the other way round!

Caller ID also lists the name...except for the Robots and the auto dialers.

My strategy is 100% fool proof and yet to fail. I simply wait to ask about the "rates" and then let them talk and when they say "any questions" I say, "how many COX does someone have to suck before they become a telemarketer?" It is 11 for 11 so far! What a great country where someone can bat 1000 huh?

JHC... easy... check the caller ID.... if you dont recognize the phone number dont pick up.. those people who have to answer the phone every time it rings are stupid...

do not call list, like most government agencies, is worthless. Fill out a complaint form with the FCC and get a form letter back saying they can
t do anything about the caller. Our tax dollars at work.

LOL...the Do Not Call List. Yeah, right...and even if telemarketers DID follow the law, American Royalty (also known as "the Congress") wrote the rules to EXEMPT political calls, political pollsters, and non-profits. I tell them they're violating federal law and to not call me back, and if they do, I ask for their business name and address so I can file a civil suit. Strangely enough, the typical response is, "I can't release that information." Yup...sounds like a legitimate business to me.

I STOP THEM IN THEIR TRACKS! I SAY HELLO, THEN HANG UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DIAL TONE!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't get a dial tone - I can't use my phone until they're finished with their entire spiel, and I don't know how this is lawful, to hijack somebody's phone line where they can't use it. BUT - I found that if I push the "FLASH" button, it kicks me over to the other line, and cuts the caller off, freeing up my phone line. If you've had this problem, try this - it works!

I SAY HELLO, WHICH IS DEFINITELY AN ANSWER! THEN I HANG UP! DIAL TONE! TRUST ME THEY DON'T CALL BACK!

Just about all phone services have a call blocking feature now, so just use that. I do and it saves me a ton of aggravation.

You can also answer with "it's a blessed day in my house." When they start talking ask them if they know Jesus. That should end things quickly.
