Tips to get rid of telemarketers from former phone marketer
Elson is a complete IDIOT. I've already added my number for years to the joke called the Do Not Call list and it never stops them. They have total disregard for it. Ever try tocall them back on the number that shows on your Caller ID? A bogus "non-working" number. These people are asswipes, and Elson may be the biggest with this bogus, fallacious information. Do Not Call List....what a joke that is.
My fav is they ask if my partner is home and I say no. Then the questiion is how abou tthe lady of the house to which I reply " speaking" in a manly low voice. Works everytime.
ok what do we do after the telemarketers read this article and change their strategy?
Contact the National Do Not Call list and put your number on it. Once you do that, and it takes about a month to become effective, telemarketers can be prosecuted for calling numbers on the list. If you do get a call, get their company name and contact info (act interested) and then report them.
I didn't know they were still in business. With the internet and online shopping I thought the whole thing disappeared. I'm wireless only no landline and never recieve those calls anymore.
I register on the National Do Not Call List every other year because I was told it only lasts a few years and then needs to be re-registered. I noticed that even though I'm on the National List and I tell telemarketers to put me on their 'Do Not Call' list, that I still get 4 or 5 calls a month. I don't know what to do to truly stop them and I don't think its possible.
My answering machine has a short message that says, "Please tell us who's calling and if we're in we'll pick up the phone. If we don't pick up, please leave a message for a callback." It works fine.
I never pick up for telemarketers or solicitors for charities or politicians. If I give my number to someone, I tell them to identify themselves on my machine since I only answer once I know who's calling. It's better than caller ID since people don't always call from their home phone or block their number.
That's all b.s. Nothing will stop them. Personally I have fun with it. I get them in a conversation about their service (usually solar panels) which pretty much consists of me asking irrelevent questions. I figure if they're going to waste my time I might as well waste theirs. If I'm on my game I can keep them going for maybe 10 minutes before I tell them to f*** off. Try it, it's great fun.
I hate the credit card calls. I keep telling them I don't have an but they keep calling. And if you ask to be put on the DO NOT CALL for that number, they just call you from another, If you call the number back, you get a message telling you that number is not a working number or the mail box is full. It's not the company doing that it's the telemarketers message to stop you from interrupting their calls.
I just let the answering machine handle the incoming calls. If it's somebody I know or an important call, I'll pick up the receiver.
Geezs, is it really that difficult? Just hang up.
Side note: stop vilifying telemarketers. If their calling didn’t work, they wouldn’t call. Want to stop them? Try vilifying those who purchase from these folks. That’s why they call, after all.
Another side note: once on the Do Not Call List, you have to periodically renew your registration. I don’t remember the timetable, but it is somewhere around six to twelve months.
I bought myself a little home phone system by Panasonic that has a caller block feature for up to 30 numbers. Now when they call it rings once and plays a busy signal. After a while they stop calling and I remove the number and add new ones. The federal Do Not Call is BS. They call anyway an even if you make a report nothing is done about them,
All I ever get from the NATIONAL DNC complaint is a thank you we will add you to out data base of complaints about this company.
BUT HERE IS SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE HAVE NOT TRIED!!! see if you STATE has a DNC list also - we have one here in Florida and they DO act I have had great luck with the Florida DNC list.
I just start talking dirty to them doesn't matter if they are male or female... First I get their name so it's 'personal' then proceed to asking questions like "So name what color panties are you wearing?" "Name do you enjoy wearing thongs?" "So name are you into casual encounters at the local motel?" "Name, have you ever attended a swingers convention?" I generally only get about 2-3 questions out before they hang up on me... Remember it's not phone harassment since they called you... That or I have been known to answer the phone "Domino's Pizza, we deliver, can I take your order?"
