Tips to get rid of telemarketers from former phone marketer
I have tried all the above and guess what? They just change their numbers and call you again. Now I just never answer a phone unless you leave a message on the machine and I know who you are! Works for me. Now with snail mail spam, which also happens, I had a stamp made which says 'return to sender'. Then I stamp each snail mail spam mail and resend back to the company. That includes all those silly newspaper freebies and ad papers. I am sure the post office loves me but hey, they bring that crap into my mailbox every day. I only return it :-)
I just installed "Call-blocker". Costs about $100. You pick up the phone as usual and, as soon as you're sure its from anyone that you don't want to hear from again, you just hit the big red button... their calls will never come through again. The device comes pre-loaded with 200 of the worst offenders and it can store another 1,200 numbers. It only works on land-lines. Best money I've spent in a long time. Highly recommended.
I was on the no-call registry and always told telemarketers to take me off their call list... nothing worked till this device. Now the ball is in my court. Love it!
This is bull! So she worked for them for two years and now she is an expert? she is partially right, but she never addresses the scuminess of the companies who are the culprits. The Do Not Call list only works if a live person actually calls you and the company that is calling is a legit business. 1)The companies have computers do the calling which bypasses the do not call list. 2) If you DO get to talk to someone, they will hang up on you as you ask to be removed from the list (they cannot or will not do it based on your request. 3) they subscribe to thousands of numbers from the phone company nationwide and the one that called you is immediately disabled if you try to call it. I could go on, but not now.
The "DO NOT CALL" list is a joke! I still get them only when I let the calls go to voice message they hang up. I do a reverse phone number check and the notes posted by others who did answer say the same thing - telemarketer calling. I even get calls from the political party I"m not even registered with when votinig.
If I pick up the phone and hear a recording, I simply hang up. If it's a live person on the other end, i have found they usually have an accent (a lot of these calls come from India Call Centers) and I keep asking them if they speak English -- is there anyone there that speaks English, sorry I only speak English and have no idea what you are trying to say -- frustrates the hell out of them. Try it.
The most efficient method and rewarding, I may add, is to buy yourself a cheap whistle - answer the phone and blow the whistle for as long and loud as you can. It has reduced my calls to 2 or 3 a week - and that is because they are political campaigns - they are allowed. If I don't recognize the number, I answer the phone with a loud whistle.
The last suggestion for avoiding telemarketing call is signing up for the national and state no call lists. That is, to put it mildly, worthless. I have been on those list with all landline and cell phone numbers and still get several every day. I have written down the phone numbers, the times of day, the name the caller gives (probably fictitious), and the subject, all to no avail. The FCC to which you are told to report has always responded "not enough information was supplied. The are all trying to sell a product.
I wish they had a do not email list. Many of those are obvious scams trying to get your info, especially the poorly written ones claiming to be from Africa and notifying us that they have a million or two dollars for us. If the federal government cannot stop this problem think about how effective they are at solving the more important and dangerous world problems.
