Tips to get rid of telemarketers from former phone marketer
This news is just BS. I have seen news "investigations" (that's a stretch for our local news stations) that they don't have enough manpower to handle the complaints people report so they don't really bother. Really? Then why does ANYONE there have a job? And if you busted just ONE company, I bet your could pay a couple of people a year's salary - AND get them out of the welfare system AND put their kids through college without government help. In other words, quit making your lazy excuses and quit doing stories that are LIES.
This is a ridiculous no information article. She says don't just hang up, but also don't engage. Conflicting advice which cancels out each other.
You want the real answer? It involves a little work...act totally interested, keep them on the phone for about 20 minutes, once you have them feeling like they hit the lottery, tear the ticket up for them. This works like a charm!
I do work in voiceover, and for some reason we started getting a lot of sales calls. I finally decided to answer my next call in a 'phone recording' voice with the following script: "We're sorry. We do not recognize your phone number from our database. Please check the number you dialed, and try again." After making that statement, they hang up without saying a word.
Haven't received any further calls after each new sales call. Works like a charm
As a former telemarketer, I can tell you that the worst thing to tell a telemarketer is "Take my Name off Your List." Ask to be placed on the DO NOT CALL LIST. Some shady telemarketers are calling people back because they don't use a list, just a predictive dialer. That might get your case thrown out of court. Also don't try to out talk or say some catchy phrase you might have come up with. Just say "No Thank You" and hang up. That's what I do.
I'm on the Do Not Call Registry and they still call. I do report each one. Today I received a call from my own number.............don't know how they do that, but it was from one of the worst offenders..............the one who wants to reduce your credit card interest. That's something I never have. Problem is you can't report your own number, so how do they fine them.
The do not call list is worthless. I signed up the first day it was available and only got even MORE calls. I have reported more tan 100 calls and nothing can be done. I have requested callers to never call me again, but an hour later get another call from them. The best ones are the ones that call daily with my "final notice" for something.
I've been getting calls from both men and women with Indian accents telling me that my computer is sending out viruses and they can fix it. They want to take control of the computer so they can get all your information. I had a call at 6:40 AM and the woman said my computer needed to be fixed and I shouted "Really?' She said yes and then hung up. It helps to ask which computer, also, and they always say Microsoft.
