Tips to get rid of telemarketers from former phone marketer
What most people don't realize is that if you deal with a company say a major credit card, they can have a telemarketer call and offer you services such as a travel plan the credit card company offers and it is legal. Surveys and services are exempt from the do not call list.
I told one to stop calling. He said he has to contact his manager... Can I hold...sure I will jack with you all day if you want . So the manager gets on. I tell him I will jack with him the same way I jacked with the other guy. How long do you want me to jack with you. He starts his sales pitch. I ask him if the siding is biodegradable, When can he measure my house. My basement is leaking can he fix that. This is to a credit card guy...so he is a little confused. I ask him if he is tired of me jacking with him...he throws another sales pitch...Sometimes the telemarketer gods smile at me and I get lucky and keep them on the line for 30 minutes.
Since I started this continuous barrage of messing with there heads my call have dropped to almost zero. I really think there is a do not call list and a don't call the crazy guy because you will be sucked into a black hole and never get off the phone list. Once you get on the second list the maintenance is minimal.
# 1 says don't just hang up, but I have to say that's exactly what I do, and I'm fine with it. When I'm home, I have my compact phone near me at all times and I screen all of my calls. The info shows up on my pnone. If it's a call that is out of area, or if it says unavailable, I will press the button as if I was going to answer the phone, and then immediately press the button for hanging up the phone. Personally, I don't think the "Do Not Call Registery" works because I used to call them many times to make sure I'm on the Do Not Call list. But I STILL gets the calls.
The way I do it is kind of fun because if there IS someone on the other end, they don't even get to talk at all. I would not recommend doing this if you don't have a device on the phone where it shows the number. You could miss important phone calls if you really don't know who is calling.
Bull. I have told some of the caller MANY times I am on the DNC list and not to call again. They continue. Most of the time the call starts with a recording, you press 1 to speak to an operator.
As soon as you tell them not to call they hang up. Many calls are not even answered because there is no idiot agent to pick up the call The DNC list does absolutely nothing.
Most, if not all, calls lstely are Robo Calls. I don't answer my phone and there is usually no message on the machine. Fromwhat I understand, they use mass dialers, and as soon as one picks up, all the others are automatically disconnected. Since you have no idea who is calling, you cannot use the 'Do Not Call" law against them. If I ever do actually end up speaking to one, I have no problem or guilt with being rude, as they have no right to intrude on your personal life, and are breaking the law. They have forfieted their right to courtesy.
If you hang up every time they call they'll pass you over for other fish who might bite. So you'll get less calls to hang up on anyway. They used to be a couple times a day, then a couple times a week now it's once every couple of weeks to a month. I'm not interested in talking to these people.
