Actually, the National Do Not Call Registry does work. BUT, you have to know how to place yourself on that list. Call a friend who is a cop----or a telemarketer----and get that number.

I was a telemarketer for over 5 years. They NEVER use their real names. So, don't try to call the company and say, "Burt called me and said....", because their is no Burt. However, if you are polite, then tell the caller that you are not interested and to PLEASE have your information removed from their archives IMMEDIATELY. And to never call you again (please). The word "please" goes a LONG way with telemarketers because of all of the rude people out there.

That only works if you have a reputable telemarketer. I asked to please put my number on the don't call back and the guy told me, that won't work, we will still keep calling you and hung up. I am not pleasant anymore!

None of hese methods work, they ignore the do not call list, telling them "no" 3 times just gets them to change the subject. All my phones have been listed wih the Do Not Call Registry since it began and I renew every 5 years. Telemarketers don't read this list-neither do scam artists who call. or charities and none take no for an answer. I'm starting to be rude nice doesn't work with these people.

Or... just get Caller ID and never ever answer your phone unless you know who it is.

My landline also allows me to block 200-callers and there are lots of free call blockers for cells phones.

If it's important any unidentified callers will leave a message and you can call them back.

Do not call lists are a waste. Been on them for years and resigned up many times. Calls never stop so we took matters into our own hands. Now they hang up on US! lol

I think it depends on the person calling you on the ROBO list. If they don't like your attitude they make sure they call you again. I don't think anything works. I wish I spoke another foreign language and maybe that would work. If they don't understand you they will politely hang up. So I'm told?

Know a foreign language?
Why?
Make up your own like Latka on "Taxi"

The "Do Not Call" list is a joke, still getting unwanted calls. Being polite didn't stop the unwanted calls flooding in.
Using a megaphone with a siren when the caller is live now..

The do not call list works for most but not for "robocalls". I've told my wife, when shopping, to buy a canned "air horn" to blow into the receiver. Let someone with an earphone on get a blast of noise and that could stop them. I really don't care if they blow out their ear drum.

I have a response to the telemarketer and AOL what the hell is the Do Not Call agency doing? Getting paid for nothing as is Immigration and other government offices. We should not have to be harassed by these fricking people, I have a couple that have been calling me for five years at least. Also, why are we paying AT&T for caller ID when we get UNKNOWN NUMBER AND NAME ON THE DISPLAY. Why does AT&T have a call center set up for harassing phone calls but when you call them this does not fall into an harassment category DAH. To me this is a form of stalking and we should all get together and do a class action suit against AT&T and the DNC people for letting it get to this stage.

I find being incredibly rude is also effective.

Best retort I have heard lately and apparently quite effective.....

"I'm sorry. My doctor just told me I have less than a month to live."

Try a free service called nomorobo. It works great. It only works with certain telephone companies, but they have a list.

The only problem with the National Do Not Call list is thaat "ROBO" Calls still go through ...
Plus political campaigns are allowed to have a free for all ... :(

Simple solution....*60 and block the number. Problem solved.

The DNC registry was created by the Government for the Government. Did you now that Politicians are exempt from the DNC ? By putting your number on the Natl DNC....you are updating that system with current information and will get a barage of Campaign calls around election time. Also, that list gets hacked by Solicitors all the time. This is how they get unlisted numbers like mine. Best bet is NOT get on the DNC or your calls will increase. Get unlisted number, get Caller ID that pops up on your TV or computer screen and turn the ringer off.

The do not call registry is a joke. We've been on it for years and the scumbags keep calling. So now I just answer "FTC - Consumer Fraud Division" and they hang up.

I got rid of 99.9% of my telemarketing calls by telling people the person they called is dead. I get an immediate, "Oh, we're so sorry" - and they hang up, immediately remove you from their database, and never call again. That has a ripple effect through almost ALL call databases - instantly. Try it.

Or if they ask for you by name, tell them there isn't anyone there by that name, and keep asking who they're calling for and what number they're using, and so on and on and on.

I resulted to that too, seems my calls go in waves, several in one week then weeks w/o them.

As long as she doesn't agree to buy whatever they're selling, you're okay! Or you could say how happy you are to have someone to chat with as you've been rather lonely.....and then start rattling on about silly stuff without giving them any space to jump in.

Sign up on the Gov't Do Not Call list. I've used that for years and have not had one telemarketer call or any other unwanted calls. I have both my home landline and our cell phones on it.

I tell them that it's a $10,000 fine to call me as I'm on the Do Not Call list. I still get 4-8 calls a day from roofers, carpet cleaners, etc. who don't care about the Do Not Call list

Huffington Post lies. I have been on the do not call list for two years and even have re-registered my phone number. I have sent in two complaints showing the number, date, and time I was called by the same scammer, and they are still calling me. The FCC is like all the other federal agencies....lazy and incompetent.
