What kind of crap advice is this? You want to stop telemarketers...? HANG UP ON THEM!! DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHO IT IS.

I worked as a telemarketer for several years too. Not particularly proud of that fact but the point is the Federal Do Not Call Registry is not your only weapon against telemarketers. There is also a federal law that states that it is illegal for any solicitor, yes I said ANY solicitor, to call you on a cell number unless the number was given to the organization specifically by the owner and gives permission be contacted on that number. The law exists because in the beginning cell phones were billed by the minute on both incoming and outgoing calls, and some companies still track minutes used on cell accounts. Therefore, you also have the option of informing the caller they have contacted you on your cell phone, if they have, and inform them by federal law it is illegal for them to contact you on the number unless you give permission, which you do not. They will have to comply.

But the bill by minute is not the case anymore and therefore more and more telemarketers are in fact using cell phones. And many more people don't have landlines.

If you listen to the entire call, you are given an election to either press a number to speak to a rep. Or a number to opt out.

They do not pay any attention to "opt out" and just call again.

Are they Ever not on one vacation type or another? As the guy on NCIS says: "Only thing worse than a politician is a child molester.". They must have gotten to the producer as they killed the man off a few shows later.

If you get too many calls for charity fundraisers asking for pledges and have had no luck shaking them, try this.

Agree to a pledge amount matching their highest prelisted amount (e.g. $100) and ask to be mailed the information. Then when they send you the paperwork for you to send your pledge, just trash it and forget all about it. When they prepare their call lists for the next pledge season, your name and number will flag as an unpaid pledge and will be removed as being an reliable pledger. Problem solved.

I still get calls today and have tried everything below. The simple fact is some of these people violate the law and nobody is going to enforce it fully.

Just call him Jimmy and tell him to get over quickly to help get rid of the body and help wash all the blood away.

I've been on the do not call list since it first started. I always tell telemarketers to put me on their do not call list. But regardless of what the law is, there is no teeth in it. There is no way to report the calls, and no one to prosecute the offenders.

Just tell them to get over to your house quickly to help get rid of the body. Never get another call. Also call him Jimmy.

Just tell the phone marketer to quit fooling around, call him Jimmy and say get over here quickly so we can get rid of the body. They will hang up on you.

I have an internet phone from voipo.com. One of the features is the abilty to permanently send a number to different locations. I send all telemarketers to the "Phone disconnected" site. Now if they call anyway the phone doesn't ring and they only hear "Disconnected" I hardly get any more telemarketer calls, I actually look foward to them so that I can put them on my own "do not call" list.

learned this on fb... when you know it's a telemarketer.... pick up the phone and say (panicky).... "I did it, but there's blood everywhere....".... that usually gets them to hang up... but you can always add "aren't you going to help????...."... gives them a story to share as well....:)......

Same thing works for me. I usually call him Jimmy and say get over here to clean up the blood.

These people are a royal pain in the ass. The Do Not Call thing is useless! I get them on my cell phone also. How do they get these numbers when they're unlisted? I got one the other day at 7 AM! Unbelievable!
