Tips to get rid of telemarketers from former phone marketer
I worked as a telemarketer for several years too. Not particularly proud of that fact but the point is the Federal Do Not Call Registry is not your only weapon against telemarketers. There is also a federal law that states that it is illegal for any solicitor, yes I said ANY solicitor, to call you on a cell number unless the number was given to the organization specifically by the owner and gives permission be contacted on that number. The law exists because in the beginning cell phones were billed by the minute on both incoming and outgoing calls, and some companies still track minutes used on cell accounts. Therefore, you also have the option of informing the caller they have contacted you on your cell phone, if they have, and inform them by federal law it is illegal for them to contact you on the number unless you give permission, which you do not. They will have to comply.
If you listen to the entire call, you are given an election to either press a number to speak to a rep. Or a number to opt out.
If you get too many calls for charity fundraisers asking for pledges and have had no luck shaking them, try this.
Agree to a pledge amount matching their highest prelisted amount (e.g. $100) and ask to be mailed the information. Then when they send you the paperwork for you to send your pledge, just trash it and forget all about it. When they prepare their call lists for the next pledge season, your name and number will flag as an unpaid pledge and will be removed as being an reliable pledger. Problem solved.
I still get calls today and have tried everything below. The simple fact is some of these people violate the law and nobody is going to enforce it fully.
i would love to invent a gun that would shot a bullet thru the phone wires and kill the sob heh heh heh
I've been on the do not call list since it first started. I always tell telemarketers to put me on their do not call list. But regardless of what the law is, there is no teeth in it. There is no way to report the calls, and no one to prosecute the offenders.
I have an internet phone from voipo.com. One of the features is the abilty to permanently send a number to different locations. I send all telemarketers to the "Phone disconnected" site. Now if they call anyway the phone doesn't ring and they only hear "Disconnected" I hardly get any more telemarketer calls, I actually look foward to them so that I can put them on my own "do not call" list.
learned this on fb... when you know it's a telemarketer.... pick up the phone and say (panicky).... "I did it, but there's blood everywhere....".... that usually gets them to hang up... but you can always add "aren't you going to help????...."... gives them a story to share as well....:)......
