Another copy. No original ideas in China.

Were they supposed to create a spaceship or something instead? Boats, how unoriginal aye!!!

All aircraft carriers look alike. Hard not to when they have to launch & recover aircraft.

It went over your heads didn't it. You didn't read the article did you. It's a copy of the Soviet Kuznetsov class carrier they bought off Russia years ago. It's not a Chinese design. Just like much of the other technology it will have, including the aircraft designs, materials and computer systems, all comes from the west. Just don't ask how they go it.

The US has now been officially warned.

Designed and built in China eh? Well it'll last at least 3 months before it breaks down.

Sid55Reply toGeneral K
Beat me to it, though 3 months is a little excessive.

Funny that because its the Americans that have been having massive problems with their latest aircraft carrier.........and regarding breaking down its been the new warship classes i.e the Zumwalt and the LCS, that have failed after leaving the builders yards. Your comment would be true if you had said that of the Russian carrier though.......:)

we get cheap low quality chinese goods because of high import prices due to EU tariffs. a lot of american goods made in china are top quality
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
howquaaaReply toGeneral K
We get cheap things because western companies and people design them to be cheap in order to save themselves money when they sell to fellow westerners.

timeisnowReply toGeneral K
The zumwalt is a new type of ship and is still in the testing stage. Of course it's still going to have bugs. This article clearly also stated that this carrier is going under sea trials as well.some people don't bother reading the article.

mepal1, ely: Everyone seems to be having problems with new warships these days. How are things going with your new Astute class of nuclear submarines? And your Type 45 destroyers--can they operate in warm waters now without breaking down? Aren't the problem children with teething troubles a significant part of your combat fleet?

If their carrier is anything like 99% of the items that come out of China, it'll break within a week.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
divergentoneReply tomike1231
That'll also be 99% of the stuff in your house then.

Yep three kettles in two years for example, rust, electrical failure and leaking.

mike1231....yes most of their mechanical output for the domestic market is rubbish.

justcuriousReply tomike1231
Those items are designed in the West only made in China, we buy this rubbish for 10 times the price, then buy another so keeping the Western capitalist system running. The problem is here not with China.

Its a launch assist ski ramp because these carriers do not have steam or electric catapults, it is a simpler but less effective solution then the US super carriers use.

Looks substantial but half hour later you need another one.

Since it only carries 15 aircraft they're going to need many. It's going to take 5 of these Chinese carriers to launch as many planes as a single US carrier. Considering the US has a fleet of 10 carriers that means China needs to build 50 of these.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
GalahadReply toivorcomment
Completely Average: That's a Type 001A ship. China's already building the Type 002 carrier, which will be about 70,000 tons and have steam catapults. And the Type 003 is in the works; it'll be about 110,000 tons and nuclear powered.

Based on the Soviet carrier Kutnezov? You mean copied, because they don't actually invent anything, it's either copy or steal with these characters.

China inventing anything of their own? hahaha nooo. China is basically a joke to the west, its well known they have no original ideas of their own and copy everything created and designed by us.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
PTCReply toWilliam E Johnson
Yep, China has not been inventing/creating anything of their own over the more than three millennia of China's existence and copying everything from us for over 3,000 years. Yep.

The US was building larger carriers that carried more planes way back in WWII.

flashback to Jan 2015 - Xu buys 1980s era defunct russian aircraft carrier under false pretense, saying he's turning it into a floating casino. No, for real. China then reverse engineers an identical copy. So, bully for China, they have a brand new, outdated aircraft carrier. I am sure it will spark amazing life on the sea bottom.
