I do not think many of you understand that those workers are very grateful and glad to have jobs at all! They earn more in a week than an average Chinese takes home in a month. Such is their life and circumstances - securing a position in this factory alone was a privilege.

So there is a place in China that employed 50,000 people, and the employees can work overtime. Nowhere in the article did the reporter say the overtime was forced. Instead the opposite was true. People were warned when they got close to the limit of overtime. I don't understand the problem. Sounds like a good company to work for. Are there other benefits? The guy that his family claimed died after working 12 hours a day needs to re-assess. There are people in the US and elsewhere who work 12 hours daily. Sounds like he may have had some sort of unknown medical problem.

"Other benefits"?.....other than what? Average wages are in the region of some $60....a month. So what other "benefits" did you have in mind? Doubtless you believe that this anti-capitalist, anti-progress, lying article also forgot to illustrate the state of the art hospital, state of the art school for children and the chauffeur driven service provided to all employees in their efforts to progress the cause of socialism yah da yah da yah da.

You don't seriously believe that the price of an i-Phone is based on production costs do you. The last calculations made on that score showed that the overall costs to produce one was less than around $6. And that included transport to market. This is called "maximisation of profits" AKA - shifting as much into shareholders dividends and - more importantly - CEO and Directors "bonuses" and "compensation"

Nope, the cost of manufacture, transportation and warranty expenses is closer to $30 per unit. Either way, Apple is not going to sacrifice its profit margins to pay increased overheads in the US, is it? So it's a moot point.

None of them looks happy in their work but you have to admit that some good discipline like this would not go amiss in our factories (and schools). I-phones are expensive because pretentious tw.ats here in the West fell for the hype and manage to screw their own employees and others into the ground in order to divvy up for them. Most recent calculations for an i-phone showed their costs amounted to some $6. But then those in the "West" and the Empire of Blessed Memory have been doing pretty much the same for centuries now.
