why should the amount matter stealing is stealing. unfortunately the courts have ruled cant force someone to take meds . i wish that was not the case. why didn't his family help him before he went to jail?

I read a story today about a black woman in Chicago who was admitted to the hospital for an abortion.

Two weeks later she received a check for $1,500. She phoned the hospital to ask if it was from ObamaCare. The hospital said “no. It's from ‘Crime Stoppers.’ "

He was a crazy angry bipolar black guy and was in trouble several times.

Guess most people in here can't read very well. HE was on Medication. His parents did care. Why was he jailed and no bail set? He took a candy bar and most of you with your attitude took his life. Why don't you care about the life of someone? I don't get it.

Let's see....in the past few days 2 white news employees were shot and killed by a black racist. A Houston sheriff was shot in the back while filling his car with gas by another black racist.

Looks like there is an epidemic of blacks killing whites. Also an epidemic of blacks targeting, hunting, and then killing police officers.

NO the main issue is he was a stealing thug if he was not he would not be in jail that's where it's at

$5? The three strike rule applies to felons, not misdemeanor crime. Who does this?Was the judge Jar Jar Binks? These Virginia taxpayers have been footing the room and board bill for FOUR months on a misdemeanor charge?!?!?!?!? Why wasn't he taken to night court with the hookers?

I really hope there's a LOT more to this story, otherwise it would have made more sense the police to take the room and board money, use to kindle an old fashion grill and cook hot dots and hamburgers for everyone!

Here is what we will find out ......His family could not get him the help he needed or he would not take his meds so when he was arrested (and I will bet he has a record and this was not just a 5 dollar theft ) they thought that the county would make sure he got help and took his meds regularly but that is not the Sheriff Departments job !! They cannot force the mental hospital to take another patient when they have no room !!I am sure we will find out that something similar happened and the media just jumped the gun on the story !!

Reading these comments...whew!!! whats going on in america that people feel it is ok to die in jail over 5 dollars worth of snacks. why is ok for a judge to deny bail over 5 dollars worth of snacks? Did the 5 dollars worth of snacks hurt worse than cheating on taxes or keeping a refund that you didn't deserve or all the other "little" things that these people commenting undoubtedly have done once or twice in their lives but did not get this type of punishment?

There had to be another reason he was denied bail! As for the help he needed. Where was his "family" for the time he was incarcerated. he refused his meds, eating! Next when their elderly die of natural causes in their homes. They will want answers. They should have demanded answers for his lengthy jail time for a misdomeaned. There is more to this!

Did his FAMILY get him the help that he needed ?? If you have a child that you know has a serious mental problem, get that child the help that they need, instead of relying on the Government, or anyone else. This man apparently would not take his medication, or eat while in jail, WHERE WERE HIS FAMILY MEMBERS ? Why didn't THEY make sure that he took his medication, and ate while in jail. Now they want a lawsuit, so that they wind up with a big, fat check. Where were YOU, the week that you son was in jail for theft ?
