If you can't do the time don't do the repeated crimes.

Another case where the victim suffered the results of his own actions and the families so distraught that they need accountability from someone living so that they can obtain some type of relief by facing those they want to blame. When medical science figures out what causes mental illness, then maybe we can blame the living. If it is found to be primarily genetic, you can only blame yourself or your ancestors. If it is caused solely by influences in childhood, once again, the families must accept both the blame and the responsibility. If it was due to an accidental but unavoidable injury, then everyone simply has to live with it and deal with it as best as we can. Until then, blame becomes the replacement for accountability.

Mental health issues are not necessary caused by influences in childhood.. The parents just want to know why he did not get the mental health placement, the judge ordered.

If his family was so worried why didn't they get him the help he needed for years, he wouldn't take his meds and HE wouldn't eat sounds like he did it his way. His family shouldn't be looking for money they should have spent money taking care of their son

They took care of him as long as they could. Parents cannot force an adult child to take meds or even hospitalize them when they notice that they are in trouble.

I have never seen such a bunch of mean spirited comments about this tragic mentally ill person who stole a candy bar. I never saw this mean spirit when I lived in VA....

Blacks will never stop blaming other people for problems that arise when they break the law. While those with "white guilt" on their hands will keep enabling them. Why don't you go ahead and tell us what you did to get that guilt? Get it off your chest.

Most often people confuse compassion for guilt. I don't ever feel guilty because of the homeless, but I do feel compassion when they ask for help, even if I don't have any cash to help them out. I'm just glad that it's not me. Most homeless people work much harder just living day to day than ANY person works at their job. Blaming other people for their problems is not limited to any race. It has become a trend and IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT! ( Hahahahahahahah)

Can't believe they wasted so many tax dollars keeping him in jail for that. They need to send a bill to his family for his room and board. It isn't the jail or taxpayers fault that he never saw this result when he went a-stealing. Next time don't steal things, no matter what the color of your skin is. White property matters.

The did not keep him in jail for that valuable $5 Snickers bar. Read the article before you comment.

F you black lives matter folks and other racist filth in this nation

Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman: ...said that the "dangerous rhetoric" against law enforcement has "gotten out of control." He also said, "We've heard black lives matter, all lives matter. Well, cops' lives matter, too."

"It's time for the silent majority in this country to support law enforcement," added Harris County DA Devon Anderson, who joined Sheriff Hickman at Saturday's news conference.

I care. Sometimes people just run out of options and have nowhere to turn. His death will not change your tax burden even one cent per paycheck.

So he died from dehydration from not drinking/eating? They should have found a hospital bed for him out of the area or out of state then. He's just a kid and probably stole the candy bar because he was hungry and his house had no food to eat.

If the poor guy needed help why didn't the family get him the help he needed? These people EXPECTED someone else to do their job? What has happened to personal responsibility in America anymore? Have the Democrats TRAINED people that are government dependent that it's the governments responsibility to do everything for them?

He is 24. Parents cannot legally force adult children to get help.

if his family really care for their son, they would have been checking on him while he was in jail. they're only interested in making money off his death. it's the way these people think.

They visited him regularly.

At most, for a $5 theft, he should have gotten 24 hours to teach him a lesson. Four months in jail over $5? What were they doing, holding him until a trial could be held which would cost thousands? This is crazy.

It's always somebody's fault other than their own.
