Man jailed for months over $5 theft found dead in cell

This is "Big " news AOL??? How about reporting on the two black kids drag racing in Harvey,Il and killed the Black parents of 3 little kids, they were all riding in their car with their seat belts on. Now that's a story. Black on Black killing is not news.

I am horrified for this family. He should have been placed in a hospital, not in a cell for months for a $5 crime.
So unnecessary.

His family's attorney told WAVY that Mitchell struggled with mental illness and the family suspects he didn't receive the help he needed. Where was the help that the family could have provided prior to him being jailed? Obviously wasn't a big concern to them until now.$$

You don't sit in jail for that long for just a $5.00 shoplifting charge and I am sure he had an attorney. They are leaving alot out of this stories. Its made out like another poor, innocent Black Thug is the victim of the big bad Police and Jailers. Poor baby, DAAAAH!!

More nonsense by the Liberal Media, anyone knows this guy did not go to jail for stealing a $5 item. It's glaringly obvious that there was other issues like a violation of probation, unpaid fines, mentally ill whatever. This is nothing more than the Media lying to the public again, it's irresponsible journalism and whoever wrote this should be in jail.

Its the families fault he is dead. They knew he had mental illness and they didn't seek help for him. The people at the jail would have no idea that he is nuts. It is pathetic that the family are trying to blame the arresting officer and the jail. I think most people are getting tired of the lame and the lazy blaming all of their woes on working people

This kid looks a little slow to me. We shouldn't blame mentally disabled people for their actions. They have a hard time controlling their feelings. Many have a child's mentality. Enough hatred. Feel for people. It doesn't cost a thing.

The whole truth would probably paint a different picture.
How about publishing his rap sheet? That may tell the story of why he was
being held without bail. For a $5 theft the county would of processed this guy and released him in a matter of hours. So how about some answers like did his crime involve some violence? Was he a repeat offender? Did he refuse to make a plea in court? The court may have been trying to protect him from himself?
The only thing we do know is exactly what the media wants you to know.
