Man jailed for months over $5 theft found dead in cell
No matter what happens to you . . . whether it's fair . . .comparatively speaking . . . or not . . .it's best to NOT act out. Bail was denied. Obviously for a reason. Probably bad attitude. :( If you want to steal a candy bar . . .. sure it's not stealing an old lady's purse. But stealing a Snicker's bar can lead to more serious thefts like stealing a Slim Jim or umm . . . a big container of Creatine and boxes of energy bars. The world RUNS on energy bars . . . you know. :( Anyway. If you're a person who thinks stealing a snicker's bar is not a crime . . . then steal a TV. That way you'll take your meds in jail because only a FOOL and MORON would get caught stealing a Snicker's. :) I would like to say . . . Live and learn . . . but he's no longer among the living. :( Anyway. Haven't had a Snicker's for a few years. I usually get those fried tortilla skins roll ups with pizza filling at the gas station instead. They're really good. You usually pay for what you enjoy.:)
You cannot force people with mental illness to take their meds, it is against their civil rights. There is legislation supporting this decision. They can be court ordered by a judge to take their medication once they are in a mental health facility. Jails are full of the mentally ill waiting on a mental health bed to open. There are not enough mental helath beds available due to budget cut backs to fund only a limited number of beds at any facility. Hop on this bandwagon. There needs to be more State mental health facilities to take care of the mentally ill. When they are discharged from a mental health facility they stop taking their meds unless their family or half way house can get them to take them. A revolving door, sad. The Mental Health system is broken.
When the family visited him in jail what did they do to get him to eat or take his medication?
VERY SAD, JUST WHO ARE THESE HUMANS MAKING DECISIONS LIKE THE ONE TO KEEP THIS SICK MAN IN JAIL. IF HE HAD HEART TROUBLE OR OTHER ILLNESS HE WOULD HAVE RECEIVED HELP. YET HE HAS AN ILLNESS JUST AS EASY TO SEE AND YET HE IS KEPT IN JAIL TO DE FROM MENTAL ILLNESS???? NO NOT GOOD, NOT RIGHT IN THIS WORLD. I HAVE NO IDEA THE HELL HE WENT THROUGH BEFORE SUCCUMBING TO DEATH BUT BET IT WAS NOT PRETTY. SHAME ON EVERYONE WHO HAD A HAND IN THIS,
Let me say this, this is the COMMONwealth, understand, if you are black they don't care whether you live or die. Since this white supremacist racist country feels it has no need for black people this is what happens. I know for a fact, yes a fact that inmates in jails in Virginia will not get medical help even if the problem is serious. This stems from as they say a lack of funds to provide the staff needed to take care of these people. Well, guess what, if this country wasn't spending so much of the money the working class provides to this government through taxes fines and all other monies obtained, then, there would be more to spend where it is needed. Also another thing, the food that is given to inmates in Virginia is worse than dog food, sometimes worse than the food given to pig is a pigpen, this is also a fact. But no, this country will spend billions, even trillions to control the rest of the world. And you wonder why so many are dying in american prisons. more to come
Typical aol, withholding the whole story. The guy had a long long history of crimes.
They stole this mans life....he was mentally ill.......what's their excuse...
Being mentally ill is not an excuse for stealing. They offered him his medication and he refused, what are they suppose to do, tie him down and force it down his throat? YOU know if they did that it would be all over the news that the abused him. They made the effort to get him to mental health but they refused him because their office was to busy. The jail did everything they were suppose to do.
Family are allowed to visit, why didn't the family try and help him but getting him to take his medication? WHERE WAS THE FAMILY BEFORE HE DIED?
GET OVER IT.
"Prosecutors are seeking an indictment in the case".
Who are the looking to indict? His family because they did not seek help for him? The 7/11 owner because he pressed charges for this guy stealing from him? The prison personal that did not force him meds down his throat? The Judge for not giving him bail?
This attitude of blaming everyone else but the person that did the crime has become ludicrous.
I'd like to think if my child was in jail and needed medicine to keep him alive, I would try and ensure he got, or took it. Would I go to jail every day if needed, maybe. Maybe they were just happy he was someone else's problem for a change. Mental illness can be exhausting for family members. Can't imagine not checking up on him or fighting for him to get the help he needed if he was in the care of the state.
