Love Cornwall - my favourite part of the U.K. Is like going back in time to how the U.K used to be.... :( Friendly people, doors left open, everyone knows your name culture, and great local pubs. RIP rest of "U.K."

Try and buy a place Amin Cornwall and you'll always be seen as an outsider... I grew up in Cornwall and even if you were English and moved there you'll still never truly belong so if us Cornish are real England then it's not a compliment

Complete and utter rubbish, I live in Cornwall, have lived here for years, apart from the occasional lovely day, the weather's crap, and emmets are driving around not knowing what to do with themselves. What's wrong with other parts of the country? what' s with Cornwall???

Funny how everyone else is saying Cornwall is a lovely place, maybe you should move free up a house and let someone local who appreciates the place have a home.

emmet + antin Cornish but is a word used to mean tourist during the summer season. Cornish like emmets - emm ets comes and emm ets goes. We are less fond of those who stay and then try to change things. (Despite the Plymouth address there ,I am Cornish and live in Cornwall now).

But because of all the dampness, you get crippled up with arthritis if you go there to live there, so I'm told.

arthritis is brought on by bad diet

Jeremy..so how come I was born with it ? Turmeric helps. What about Tresco , surely more tropical ?

I remember photos of tropical plants when we studied world geography in the US. This was well before the term "global warming" was invented. This nothing new, there were palm trees in Cornwall before Al Gore was born.

Well over 55 years ago I visted Tresco in the Isles of Scilly and even then it was famed for its tropical gardens.I am fairly sure that at that time Torquay had palm trees along its sea front promenade.

Wages are the lowest in the country. One employer here pays less than the minimum wage but makes it up to the legal amount by generously adding what they call an "attendance bonus". Cornwall is one of the most deprived regions in Western Europe and is more deprived than Poland according to an article in the Daily Mail. But house prices are soaring though.

LZ Roberts, I couldn't agree more with your post. Visitors live in this pseudo fantasy created by Canary Wharf or Fleet Street journalists that Cornwall is some kind of Key West playground. The cost of living here is horrendous much like any other beautiful place.

7 months of the year it is above 10c - meaning it dont go above 12c all year round - basically freezing ... Sub tropical, lol my rib cage is splitting open

Well laugh it up fuzzball, I have holidayed there in February, March and April and got a sun tan. It may get dark early in Feb but if you are lucky with the sun it can be quite hot. I live five miles from the boarder and go as often as I can.

Yep, well hello Mr ignorant.. The person from Wiltshire ( sorry I didn't see your name) is right. It is warmer and he's correct. Tropical plants thrive there.. YOU wouldn't!

Is this all there isReply tomick
Nope, it doesn't rain 24 hours a day for 6 months of the year....coz if it did, that would be ''most of the time'' .... it does rain, SOME of the time.

Unlike many other parts of the UK, Cornwall has not been ruined by mass uncontrolled immigration.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
Paul EReply toNelly1986
Unfortunately it is not true, the difference is that the immigiration is by wealthy Londoners etc who buy up the property and out price the locals who then have to move out!

What does that have to do with climate?

Being in Cornwall is like being abroad. The beaches; Porthcurno, Kaynance Cove, Sennen Cove, St Ives (to name a few) are amazing. You just have to have the right weather to truly see its beauty.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
JennyJumpReply totheHRman
Yes it is like being abroad since England is now full of people who do not look English!

Reader Swives, in that case the "various parts" of Britain/England you must have visited obviously didn't involve any large city or it's surroundings, and most definitely not London unless you were wearing blinkers...or possibly a Niqab.

I came back yesterday from Helston right next to Porthleven and it was drizzling rain nearly everyday and cloudy but it wasn't exactly what I would call sub tropical. It wasn't cold but it wasn't exactly hot either.

I remember nearly getting frostbite riding a motorbike across Bodmin Moor, so if they've got the same climate then which bit of Vietnam is freezing in winter? Sounds like a load of old hype.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
Holly_Berry66Reply toVicky Pollard
Well when I was younger I remember that Cornwall ever hardly got frosts when every other County did. It wasn't for years that I heard that it did. It was well known in the South for not getting them. They have always grown plants that not many other Counties could. Seasons are so much different today, they blend together, not so long ago you felt them changing. I would definitely say it's got warmer all year round, I suppose if you live long enough you can experience these things rather than take someone's word for it.

What a nonsense article. I grew up in Falmouth, Cornwall where an occasional very hot summer would allow the local banana plant in the park to produce some green fruit and I lived there for 42 years and that was it. I have been working in Nghi Son, Vietnam for 15 months and today, this morning at 8 a.m. it is 36 degrees C already so beat that Cornwall!
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
Saigon ChrisReply toCarlos
Might on occasions hit the he same temperatures as Saigon but there is a big difference in humidity, especially in the rainy season. If it is like where I live in Vietnam, you better start fitting air conditioning.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
Grasshopper FarmerReply toCarlos
Almost all of Vietnam is actually in the tropics, only the far north is sub-tropical. It would also be classed as a sub-tropical, humid climate, similar to Brisbane, Australia or Florida, US. They are only categorizing Cornwall as being sub-tropical based on average temperature. The comparison is irrelevant without the word humid.

We go on holiday every year to Hayle . The beaches are beautiful, the gardens, the weather, the moorland , the food (spoilt for choice eating out) and above all the friendly people ! It's also like going back in time , Cornwall hasn't changed like the rest of the country has if you catch my drift...

Sub tropical? lol. You won't think that when the Atlantic gales rattle through in September and October and I live here. The only guaranteed sub tropical item here are the extortionate house prices thanks to articles such as these.
