I was stationed near Panmunjom, just north of Freedom Bridge, along the DMZ in 1968-69. Same stuff happened back then. Back then it was a war though. North Korean infiltrators ambushed American and ROK patrols, ambushed vehicles, mined roads that blew up vehicles, shot down helicopters, captured the SS Pueblo where the crew spent almost a year as POW in North Korea, Guard posts were shot at, and troops along the barrier fence in fox holes were shot at all by North Korean Peoples Army troops. The line was held though by US and South Korean troops stationed there. There is a memorial proposed to be placed at Arlington National Cemetery to remember those that served along the DMZ, and those that were KIA, WIA, and POW. Something not many people knew happened in Korea except for the GI's that served there, and the gold star mothers.
