Will greed doom us all? Stephen Hawking warns our current view of wealth could ultimately cause the human race to perish

The middle east NEED to work-for a start.They have no industry.Even oil is extracted by Western methods/people.They can afford to BUY all they need in Saudi, but they do nothing all day.If people had to get an education and work for a living, how much things would change for the better!However, only they can decide to start afresh!

Worth remembering that intelligence and wisdom are not synonymous terms.

Sciencists are good at science, not at political analysis. He writes like he believes the EU was perfect. The people believe they can do a better job of governing themselves ultimately.

Isolationism led to the vote to leave? That's a dangerous fantasy. The country voted to leave because those voting to do so wanted the country to take its place in the world and not isolate itself as minor regions of the EU. The fact that so many "remainer" are thinking back to front on this tells us much about their thinking altgether. Professor Hawking may be better informed on the theories of cosmology than the rest of us, but on matters of everyday life in the UK he is somewhat isolated himself from empirical observations.

The sad truth is people like Stephen can bleat all they want but the real powers that control the worlds' financial system will never give up their grip on power. Their greed is what keeps most of the world poor.

People voted for Brexit to leave the EU. How hard is it to understand that voters want to vote in and vote out those who govern them? Everything else is secondary.

Yeah, Brexit is going to lead to the end of humanity. If only we had stayed put and been told what to do by the well-paid superiors who would welcome everyone in and then do nothing to ensure they prosper, but that have enough from people like me to ensure that they can still drink Starbucks and be wasteful.

Last time I looked he was saying that the world would end if we voted for Brexit so I no longer believe anything he says on anything just like all the other people who threatened us with plagues and pestilence.

Overpopulation and greed are not a problem for the Earth. Only for humans. After the previous 5 mass extinctions, The current 6th mass extinction, or Anthropocene, is entirely down to humans. Sadly, Professor Hawking is right.

I think he is rightIts all about me and as most of the youn generation have never lived under war time conditions if it happened god help us.what no face book no twitter no internet.it is greed and only getting worse.what happens years from now when food for the west gets hard to come by ?One bloody big war .

He's quite right.....man's need for power and wealth knows no bounds

Over crowding will kill human race. Too many people not enough land or food.

When artificial intelligence (robots) get into full swing, which is getting closer. Middle class professional jobs will disappear in the millions worldwide. Question is, who will then buy the Jags Mercs and BMW's. Capitalism will destroy itself.

Professor Hawking demonstrates conclusively that intelligence and stupidity are NOT mutually exclusive.

I believe the human race will 'self-destruct'. If all humans were as bright as Stephen Hawking we would have a very secure future. But as we can see, most of the world is fighting and killing each other over entities which do not even exist, except in the mind. Greed, over-production, virus-level spread of humans over the planet, the resulting pollution. The killing of humans of other species - often just for fun. It's quite disgusting if the lock your mind onto such mental images for a short while. Maybe it is better if humans do not survive - at least for the planet as a whole.

This has been obvious for a very long time .Some people ,like Branson for instance ,are super greedy and there are plenty like him .We are all greedy to an extent but I just cannot fathom why you need enough money to live a thousand lives of luxury .I think it is some sort of desease .Many examples have been in the news lately ,the doctors grabbing big money because they can ,we all know about the greed in the legal proffession,nurses working as agency nurses while turning down ful time work ,TAX DOGING IS A BIG ONE ,MAINLY DONE BY RICH PEOPLE AND BIG COMPANIES .The EU exists because of greed ,the greed of the high rollers ,corporations ,who want a bigger share of the pie .Super greed is a desease .

He thought we should sell our parliamentary democracy and common law for 30 pieces of silver. Of course it was really more about giving away democracy for an elite such as him. Now after bashing democracy he is bashing free market capitalism rather than the crony capitalists he sides with, just proves they are trying to bring in communism.

There's an irony in this. Hawkin comes from Cambridge University that has made Cambridge one of the most unequal towns in Britain, with house prices beyond the many. And they voted in on the referendum. Just sayin'

This will NEVER be addressed . The Human race is doomed because of this . As long as there are greedy corporations intent on nothing but the "bottom line " and increasing their own wealth ,and , also , non-altruistic leaders who kow-tow to corporations , and ignore the real problems facing humanity !
