Sorry Stephen, but we didn't evolve just to give it all away to visitors from the Middle Ages.

The cause of all the problems we have is human nature

And that is the issue unfortunately, had Earths population been smaller I'm 100% sure we would be more than willing to share but currently things are just unsustainable. Its a shame that at 28 and newly married I actually sometimes wonder if bringing children into this world is a selfish thing to do.

Greed is what drives everything in the world! It's why there's still poverty, why there's wars etc...it's why weapons are sold to both sides of a conflict and why local business suffers as they buy from abroad...it's why people struggle on minimum wage while the top 1% who I imagine you voted for are sitting on mountains of money they couldn't possibly spend. It will be the end of the human race as more conflicts arise and more wars break out...as we all know only the rich benefit from war and the stupid are duped into believing it's for the greater good!

There is a big difference from being intelligent and knowledgeable about a specific subject and having common sense and a general understanding of the world and people. In fact, the deeper a person's special knowledge the less their connection to the real world.

On the contrary, greed was partly the cause of Brexit - the greed of the undemocratic para sites in Wastemonster and Brussels taking our hard-earned money by force.

The fact that he cant understand the popularity of US Presidential candidate Donald Trump says quite a lot. He seems to be quite out of touch on a lot of things and exists in some sort academic Cambridge bubble, (or parallel universe?) with all the other like minded Cambridge scientists who dont really inhabit the real world. The money these scientists think they get from the EU actually comes from the UK taxpayer in the first instance and there is no reason to think it will be reduced once we have left the EU or that scientific cooperation and collaboration with the EU will end. Presumably their socialist ideals favour a centralised pan European utopia along the lines of a USSR.

For such a clever man he really has no grasp of why people voted leave. He really thinks I wanted to breach the inequality, that I thought I would be better off financially by voting leave. I got told my job was at risk if I voted leave but I truly believed that the democracy and sovereignty of my country was more important. We were sick and tired of being told what we could and couldn't do by bureaucrats. Sick and tired of unlimited immigration and sick and tired of being told the world would end if we left. Guess what my job isn't at risk it was a lie.

Greed is the driving force of progress throughout our history. Wanting more to eat, creating larger tribes so that you could overpower other tribes and so on. When we get near the Star Trek ideal of not being motivated by money, maybe the Human Race will see the light at the end of a long dark tunnel?

We are approaching the end of the dominance of Western society. We are well into our 'bread and circuses' stage and the printing and devaluation of money (through greed) is going to soon lead to the collapse of the dollar and of most developed societies. This is going to have a serious impact on all of us. I've been banging on about it for a while but even Stephen Hawking is talking about it now. We are not far off...

Has he seen Elysium? ......... A future post apocalyptic Earth is grossly polluted, vastly over-populated, and disease runs rampant through the dilapidated slums that the cities have become. The wealthiest people have fled the planet and taken refuge on Elysium, a Stanford Torus high-tech space station, just beyond earth's atmosphere........While those on Earth are policed by ruthless robots, Elysium's citizens live in a utopian setting which includes access to private medical machines, called "Med-Bays," that offer instant cures for virtually any disease or ailment a person may experience...............THAT Is how the 1% want us!
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
ZARDOZReply toDamianYK
No, what the elite want is for us to see the transhumanism technology in the movie as good. Hollywood movies are propaganda to condition us to believe as the ruling elite wants us to believe. Elysium was the name of Roman heaven, and those in space in the movie were supposed to represent heaven and god.

His stance on Brexit is simply his fear that Science will suffer (and he may be right if revenge takes the form of cutting off British scientists) but I disagree that I voted out because of envy and isolationism. I voted out so we could make our own rules, and not be bullied by the EU. I think he's right that if the system goes on driving the current middle classes into poverty and the current already poor - to where? then there will be a catastrophe. The economy has to carry the whole community along not just the privileged lot.

Greed and lack of morals will see the human race perish. But this has nothing to do with why people voted Brexit.

We have become obsessed by buying, by luxuries, they are supposed to fill the gap left by how alone this world feels as we cannot trust the person standing next to us.Celebrity people influencing the world to buy things we cannot afford to be like them.Such companies as M&S who were took over and ruined with no thought for the dedicated workers. Big people ruining lives without a care.Disabled been attacked on a regular basis because they are not perfect.People becoming obese as they get lazy enjoying their luxuries and supermarkets selling so much food that its not required and wasted.Gone are the days of job satisfaction, craftsmanship, things built to last. Its a throw away society get a new one, a better must have.Same with people, less want a long term relationship as it means effort and commitment, they might have to share their things.I am at the stage I hate money, I hate possessions, they are meaningless, a noose around our necks. They don't fulfil the soul,

null, humans are incapable of setting up and maintaining a meritocracy. People like Mandleson would always screw it over for their own benefit. I know where we ought to be, but short of a benign totalitarian dictatorship, I don't see how we can have a fair and equitable society.
