How tall is YOUR country? Men from the Netherlands top the table at just under 6ft while women from Guatemala stand at 4'10

I am from Nepal and I don't think this study takes our height into account :D We are short people. I am just 5.6 and my dad was only 5.5. When I visited a Dutch friend of mine last time in Utrecht, I had to climb a railing or something when he insisted on taking a selfie. That is when I felt how small I was.

You are mountain people in Nepal.Sherpas may be short people but they are very strong and tough and made for mountains. Different people for different places or origins but we are all mixed up now.

Surely we're made for the environment we live in - or at least the environment of our ancestors.

I was recently on a holiday in Croatia, and as a 6' 2'' man never felt so short, so many guys were taller than me, I was gobsmacked.

I had that in the Netherlands. I'm 6'4 and I was about normal there. Here now, I'm probably the tallest man in Spain! Standing on the metro, I feel like Gulliver.

As long as my feet make it all the way to the ground I will be okay.

Means very little in a country like the US. An American of Dutch ancestry is obviously going to be far taller than a Honduran living in America.

I looked after Japanese and Chinese students for ten summers and saw them get noticeably taller during that time. They now eat a diet high in red meat and processed food, and their cancer rates are much higher than their parents' generation. While it is true that poor nutrition can stunt growth, being tall doesn't always mean being healthy. Look what the short Japanese and Chinese acheived before MacDonalds.

My mother is 5'10 and my father is 5'11. Between them they have 4 daughters ranging from my sister at 5'2 to me at 6'1. I find height and genetics so interesting, can't wait to see where my son ends up with my husband just hitting 5'8.

People travel and settle all over the world these days - so you can't apply these old measurements any more. There was a time when you could even generalise about height within the UK - tall blond southerners, little dark Welshmen etc. But not any more - due to travel, intermarriage, better nutrition etc.

While being tall is looked upon favorably ( sometimes lol ) it can be a right pain, when I lived in Cornwall we had the most gorgeous home, but there was one 'slight' problem...it was a very old "country farm house"...that was built for the average Cornish-man of the day...and I'm 6ft 3" tall. We had to move in the end...after I knocked myself out a number of times when forgetting to duck after getting up for the loo in the middle of the night.

I am one of them though, I wouldn't date a girl that is shorter than 165cm. What can I say, I don't date midgets.

Have a look at the queue for KLM next time you're at an airport - they are noticeably taller. As for myself, I'm moving to Guatemala where I'll be able to be one of the tall people for a change.....

Yes, I have noticed this too for quite some time. They stand like giants compared to others.

Last time I was in the KLM queue I was the giant, at 6ft 3" none of the Dutch were anywhere near as tall...I'm English by the way..

My grandmother, born in 1908 was 5'8''. An american Indian, she married an Irish immigrant and their four daughters, all born during the depression, ranged from 5'8" to 6'. My mother married married another Irishman and I was born during a period of prosperity and good nutrition. I'm 5'3''. What happened?

I should have added that my son is 6'2"". His father is a 5'6" Chinese immigrant. Genetics is funny, lol.

Thank you using the proper term, American Indian, rather than the commonly used native American being ignorantly and offensively used at the exclusion of most Americans, who are also native American.

Pete, We used to use the term American Indian but then we were told we were r.ac.ists for using that term. The correct term, we were told was to be Native American. This is serious we can go to gaol these days for using the wrong words and 'offending' people.

No, fredup, you used the term Red Indian. American Indian is an accepted term.

I never stood a chance at being a tall elegant graceful woman, which I always wished. It's simply not in my genetics! My Dad was a rather short dumpy Welshman, and my Mum is Viennese and her family are also short in stature and have small feet. So I am just over 5ft 1in, and a size 3 in shoes. My husband is British/Irish and is 6 foot 2 and quite lanky...Crikey! I hope he is not reading this......... ?

Elegant and graceful has nothing to do with how tall people are. :)

Those conversions from cm to inches are a bit inaccurate. 177cm is nearer to 5ft 10 than 5ft 9. 182.5 isn't 5ft 11 it's fractionally under 6ft.
