Dreadful as this is - You are always told to keep your seat belts on and they must be in view over your blankets whilst sleeping!!Sartorial Sal
Well done to the pilot for getting the plane through this. Pilots can not alter the weatherBOOBOO
For those saying it's their fault as they had no seatbelts, some of the injured were walking (possibly toilet) in the isle. You can't have your seatbelt on at all times.whichway2turn
There seem to be a lot of incidents like this lately. I attended a course to combat fear of flying and they told us that commercial airline pilots are trained to fly around severe weather, even though the airplanes can take the abuse. It's because it would be too uncomfortable and frightening for normal passengers. Apparently mail or freight planes usually just fly through bad the weather, because those on-board are trained to cope with the severe turbulence. I wonder if, in an attempt to save fuel, commercial airlines are now opting to fly directly through severe weather regardless of the impact on passengers? Providing the craft survives, I can't imagine they'll lose much sleep.James Hawker
This is exactly why pilots are always belted. Clear air turbulence cannot be seen nor detected. The only heads up is when another aircraft gives a turbulence report in the same vicinity. On routes that are more remote with less traffic and you are out there essentially all alone, you are taking a big gamble as a passenger staying unbelted.
