I flew Aeoroflot once for 10 hours and the cabin looked exactly like that...with food and garbage on the floor, except there was no turbulence.agt
When the pilot says fasten your seatbelt, he means just that. It is difficult to feel sympathy with people who ignore common sense.Boobarli
Many years ago returning on a flight from Portugal - the plane suddenly dropped height, there was no warning ..The oxygen masks dropped down - peoples hot drinks spilt everywhere and people/crew standing in the aisles fell over .. When the pilot eventually spoke ( which seemed like ages) but was prob just seconds/minutes, he apologised and said that the plane had gone into a cloud formation that had caused turbulence?? I still wonder to this day if it was a near miss ....I am sure it happens more than is reported - but who knows! - all I know is that it was pretty scary..Robbie ross
Something's not quite right here! The minute even the slightest bit of mild turbulence occurs, or when turbulence is forecast, the captain immediately turns on the fasten seat belt sign and also makes a PA. Most times it's more of a preventative measure. So in this case, for there to be such extreme turbulence and for people to not only not have their seat belts securely fastened but worse still to be actually walking around the cabin is utterly ridiculous and most unusual and totally again airline safety procedures. I always keep my seatbelt loosely fastened when on a flight for this very reason.JAF1981
when the seatbelt sign goes on you put your seatbelt on, end of --- i can never understand why people think that does not apply to them!Timbertony
I've always hear cockpit warn of impending turbulence & to belt up. Pilots can see radar warning of turbulence so surprised at this happening.Major HindsightReply toTimbertony
No, radar only shows precipitation, e.g. rain drops in clouds, storms, etc. You do not get radar returns from air. The warnings mostly are from weather reports, and reports from pilots ahead on the airway who have already passed through. Pilots do get a brisk warning just before a near ground windshear though.cheshire girl
Why were they not wearing their seatbelts ????? the fault is theirs and theirs alone.RobReply tocheshire girl
Don't talk such rubbish. Some passengers would be waiting to use the toilet. Others may just be stretching their legs, as recommended, to avoid deep vein thrombosis. The cabin crew will be going about their business. If the captain had been aware of the turbulence in advance he would have issued an instruction to keep the seat belts fastened. If the passengers had then ignored this then it would have been their own fault but not in this case. Think before you post, idiot.alberto stepytoe
Apparently, those who were injured did not have their seat belts fastenedThere you go!ArrivisteReply tonibaileyy
Yes, but people have to get up periodically to go to the toilet, check on family members, and stretch their legs. You cannot realistically be strapped into your seat for the duration. In this case it seems that either the turbulence arrived without warning, or there was a lack of communication between cockpit and cabin.
