I can't believe that the crew didn't have prior warning of this turbulence. Usually its reported by pilots en route. Also why weren't people wearing seat belts as a matter of course? Very bad management by the airline and the crew.

Turbulence pockets are unexpected and sudden, too small to appear on weather charts or part of weather systems. Crew can advise you to wear seatbuilts until they are blue in the face but you always get passengers who decline that advice.

All their own fault.. keep your belt on and it wouldn't have happened

Yes, even the cabin crew who have no choice but to be up and around, and anyone hit by something or someone else whilst belted into their seats, it's all their fault.

The pilot didn't warn them to all wear seat belts? Are there actually special belts for babies? I always have my belt on while sitting. This is unbelivable

It is always advised at the beginning of the flight to keep your seat belt loosely fastened. I always do.

On BA they have baby belts but those are actually banned by other airlines.. because while they stop a baby flying round the cabin during turbulence (ie to protect other passengers), they're incredibly dangerous for the child. Even with toddlers who sit in their own seat - the belt is not properly designed - it can kill. Young children should be secured in a car seat, always!

I presume the pilots were busy trying to control the aircraft.

The joy of being a rebel is not putting your seat belt on when you are told to do so.Being a rebel can however result in broken bones etc. They are all Russians and will all be totally smashed out on vodka and wont have even noticed their wounds yet.

There was no sign to put seat belts on at that moment

They weren't told to out them on!

How did the pilots not forewarn the passengers of upcoming turbulence and to be seated with their belts fastened?! Everyone is saying have your belt fastened but on a long haul flight I get up and walk around and stand up to stretch my legs! Id place this in the hands of the pilots!

There's no sign in the sky that warns "turbulence ahead".

You are recommended by safety card to keep your seat belt on, pilots do not have 6th sense to detect turbulence.

Contrary to popular belief, turbulence does not send it's atmospheric itinerary to the pilots of the plane flying towards it. Turbulence is mostly invisible and won't show up on the radar. In rare instances, other aircraft that have encountered it can warn others approaching the vicinity, allowing the crew to warn their passengers, but it is otherwise often encountered without warning.

You are all wrong. I fly Emirates alot and prior to any turbulence we receive a warning! How do these pilots know? Lucky guess?! There absolutely must be something on their switchboard that gives a sign of turbulence ahead!

This illustrates the reason American pilots may act like autocrats toward passengers who don't follow the rules. Pilots live in fear of such a horror happening on one of their flights. That's why doctor Dao should never be allowed to fly again for sneaking back onto the United plane after being ejected the first time. That's when he was very properly dragged off like the crazy person he must be. I'm so fed up with idiotic, entitled-thinking passengers. Air flights are inherently dangerous! The crew are responsible for our safety. I will remember this video the next time I fly, and thank God for American pilots and airline companies who are so strict.

Dr.Viet Cong should have been returned to Vietnam where the local authorities would deal with him appropriately.

So many stories like this and these eejits really sit in their seats without their belts on? The airline should not be paying the costs for these people as it is their own stupid fault.

Those poor passengers. This is dreadful. Surely the Captain should have advised them to stay in their seats & secure their seat belts. would have been better to have had their sealbelts on & be seated.

All passengers are always told that, but some just think they know better than the Pilots.

It's the parents fault if their babies aren't OK! !!! You wouldn't sit your child in a car and not put the seat belt on would you !!!!

First of all, never undo your seat belt unless absolutely necessary. Secondly, never fly Aeroflot.

Let's see which idiot will now try to sue the airline...using lines like "I didn't realise that 'Please fasten your seat belt', meant to put on the seat belt"

Ellipsis . . .
'Apparently those who were injured didn't have their seat belts fastened'... Says it all really - think you're above the rules, you pay the price...

Which rule? When I fly, I leave my seatbelt fastened. But constant seatbelt use during flights is recommended, not enforced, in my experience.

John Robin...people with brains really don't need to be told to fasten their seatbelts.

I always keep my belt on when seated but on a long flight one is invariably out of one's seat at some stage, if only to avoid DVT and toilet visits. A very harsh comment. The main point is that folks going about their normal business were hurt. You remind me of ther spoof news report in the fim " Airplane"- they got on board so it was their own fault.

For those of you confused by this and asking why the captain didn't know about this area of turbulence, google 'clear air turbulance' and it will help you to understand!

The crew should've ensured all passengers safety belts were fastened, but then this is aeroflop.

The crew cannot false you to put your seat belt on, only when your taking off and landing.

So you're telling me all those passengers ignored the warning? From what I've read there was no instruction to keep belts fastened.

Aeroflot. You would not catch me on one of their planes. Why were the passengers walking around when they had hid such bad turbulence. They should have been told to sit down and put on their seat belts. HOw can people be that stupid and an airline so careless.

On my last long haul to Australia on a Airbus A380 we had bad Air turbulence over India and as I had a extra bottle or two of wine with my meal a couple of hours earlier, I felt so relaxed the turbulence did not worry me at all.
