2 points really - sounds like they're all going to go after compo and sue the airlines for basically climate - nothing they can do about that! The second is that, if they'd stayed fastened in (as you're supposed to unless you need to go to the loo), they'd have been fine

You are not supposed to, if the sign is off, you can undo the belt. Why people don't leave them on loosely, I don't know

I see it this way
Which just goes to show how strong modern aircraft are !!

As bad as it was, those people should be thankful they were on a plane built by Boeing. When you positively have to get there, fly on Boeing.

If a Russian does not see why he or she should do something, then typically the they won't.

Maybe now they'll see why.

Seen it before passengers not putting seat belts on and this is the result. Brits are as bad.

Blimey, Aeroflot has 777's ? Didn't realise their fleet was so up to date. The passengers should have been seated with seatbelts fastened. Must have been scary though!

Incidentally, Aeroflot overhauls its fleet regularly they have new 320's and 777's on all major long-haul routes. Anyway, their international partners obiously find them technologically reliable. I don't think Aeroflot would be a member of SkyTeam otherwise.

I had one of the worst turbulence i have ever experienced a few months ago. Captain said there is nothing he can do fly higher or lower because there would still be turbulence. The plane bounced up and down and rocked, you could hear the fear in some people. It's not a nice experience. You come to realize hows flimsy a plane is that a powerful undercurrent of air could flip the plane to its side and at that speed going straight the captain would be in a fight to get the plane under control. Even at takeoff as the plane leaves the ground you feel how really flimsy the plane is against nature and gravity because there is absolutely nothing you can do but sit in a very closed space the feeling is harsh. I actually have no fear of flying i just hate it because its long takes up half or your whole day, Checking in, Waiting for your gate, waiting on the plane, hours in a small space. going threw customs when you land, it's really depressingly long unless you own a Nintendo Switch lol

Planes built to withstand these things, they are not flimsy.

I actually love turbulence personally - livens up very boring flights

I love flying as long as there is enough legroom, and the seats are comfortable. I have been in turbulence, and did find it a bit frightening, but in a good way! Once I was in a plane that had a difficult landing (due to cross winds I think), and we all broke out into spontaneous applause when we landed safely.

Who really cares
This is all very sad indeed and I hope those injured make a speedy recovery. HOWEVER, I am a regular flyer and time after time I see this...the pilot will warn of turbulence and tell every one to fasten seat bels, but so many ignore the warning.....sorry but of they were not sat in their seats with set belts fasted it is not the airlines fault that people ignore common sense safety advice..

What I can never figure out is why people need to unfasten seat belts. I can almost guarantee 100%,that an announcement will have been made, which would have said "WE ARE ENTERING AN AREA OF TURBULENCE". - Enough said

Bottom of the article. "There had been no order to fasten seat belts"

If you actually read the article it's says there was no time to make an announcement.

I had something similar, however warning lights issued prior and people were seated. Our plane was only a third occupancy so it made it worse. Such a horrible feeling and all through the flight your frightened. Since that journey I developed a fear of flying however I still fly but I'm extremely anxious when I do.

On a 10+ hour flight, its normal for people to get up to toilet or to stretch their legs (DVT).

Sincere best wishes for a speedy recovery for everyone who was injured. It looks like it must have been a terrifying experience.

Listen to your captain at all times its the first thing he says keep your belt fastened just in case....it's not rocket science
