STUPID article for STUPID people. Could have been one sentence:

Sign up for the National Do Not Call Registry.

Because NONE of the crap suggested in the article will work.

A few things I have for those telemarketers are: I still use dial-up, I ask if they will allow me to record our conversation, if their call is interesting I stay chatting with the telemarketers to bore them for as much time as they can waste with me. Not on any do not call listing to advertise my information. To all those telemarketers keep calling me I want your time. Being retired does have its advantages!

I just put the phone on the table and walk away. Eventually they realize they're talking to themselves and hang up. Rude? I don't care - it's my house, my phone and if I want your product I'll call YOU.

The recent problem is from "robo" calls, sometimes if you hang up they will just call you back.

the robo calls I check with reverse caller id doesn't work as the number they call from usually doesn't exist, they are using are not working numbers. I have complained to the telephone ompany but they won't do anything about it. c=haangfed to COX cable phone who has an :accept or reject' call system that leaves a mesaGE AND DOES NOT LET ANY CALLS YOU DON'T PROGRAM GET BY. iT'S THE GREATEST THING,i USE TO ANSWER THE PHONE,"ORANGE COUNTY SHERIGG HOLD PLEASE": THAT WORKS AS WELL.

did opt out and it seemed to work for years. seems when it expired the calls began to come in again. I just let my machine take calls. Lots of hang ups. If I dont recognize the number the phone just doesnt get answered.

I like to have fun with them. I never answer the question they ask. I say how are you today, and what did they have for lunch or dinner. I want to make so and so for dinner tonight, how do you make this. Have you been to so and so place.Pisses the chit out of them not getting an answer, and they wind up hanging up.Works everytime.

Does not work for the eldery woman I clean for. the telemarketer loves to chat because they think they are "budding" up to her and since she is old will give them almost any info they want. I had to warn her son to "save her from herself & the telemarketer"

this person hasn't a clue---phone rings---it's Rachel or one of the other taped versions---BUT---no actual person on the line---it's my last chance (until tomorow--4x a day)---the take off the list option is useless
as is the annoyance call bureau

These tips won't work when you get "robo calls" and never speak to a person. If someone can come up with a solution to those, I'll be most grateful!

I agree! this is the way they found a illegal loophole through the do not call registry! If the number shows on my phone I report them to the dncr but little that does

If they leave a number call then back, then see my comment about 10 mins after yours

the do not call registry is a joke!! I get telemarketers anyway!! and if you say you are on the list they will say "what is that?" and fake a bad foreign accent

This is the day of cell phones! If I don't know the number, then I don't answer! No Message, it wasn't important! If I get the call more than once, I send e-mail to SAG because I am on NO CALL list! Seems to work for me!

As I remember it, the do-not-call restrictions do not apply to charities or politicians, and apparently not to callers who weigh their chances of being prosecuted.

Don't forget that the telemarketer is just doing a job. Many are using it as a second job . As one commenter noted, they are given a script and judged by how many calls they make and the number of people talked to.

I tell them The Atty. General office has advised me to get your name, the company name and record the conversation. Once I do that the Atty Gen. office will handle it and do not call again. Most of the time it works....

The best way to stop telemarketers is to blow an air horn into the receiver, it will blow out their ear drum. Nothing they can do legally, remember they called you

Some of them are probably reading these comments. What if they call you back with an air horn of their own?

The do not call list is a joke to many telemarketers. I have one promising to lower my credit card interest rates calling twice a day for years. I have filed a complaint and nothing is done. Last time they called the telemarketer threatened my and my families life.

These suggestions are useless. If you try to take control of a situation by saying put me on the do not call list they hang up before you can finish the sentence. The Do Not Call registry us useless, the attorney general is useless. There is no way to stop these calls.

am on do not call list but a certain company keeps calling from different numbers and telling me they are from my isnurance company. after I tell them not to call, they will do it right away from a different phone number. and they are always indian.

I will always "buy" what they have to sell but I give them my ex's information, not mine. I wonder what my ex does with all those free trial magazines and coupons.

Of course you know that is very ILLEGAL. Personally I hope you get caught and serve your time with BUBBA or BUBBETTE in the county jail.

mchris1542 is absolutely correct. I'm on the National Do Not Call list, have even renewed althought they say it's not necessary, & I still get multiple Telemarketer calls daily

"You just want to remain polite..."
Who says I have to? I'll be as rude as I can be and make THEM hang up.
