The iPhone is doomed , Samsung is killing them off.

Samsung's turnover on smartphones isn't looking too tidy according to the tech press.

Only so many £300plus can be spent on mobile phones. That's the reason any turnover suffers. Its a want, nor a need, and people first need to sort out needs.

They seem to be happy with where they work.

Some of the comments on here are idiotic. No smiles from the employees? Most people wouldn't stand there smiling when they have to go through a long list/check. Work is work. That's why it's called work and not play time. Also, apple isn't the only company who employs countries in the east to manufacture their products. Most clothing, electronics etc. are made under the same or worse conditions. It's hard to avoid products that are made in the east.

well 'Anitabeer' I join you in your disappointment in realizing these products are not made in Leeds, all because you cost too much. So now you can't join in the 'fun'. Keep smiling!

Facial recognition for Chinese employees, that was a dumb investment.

Gosh - aren't we the clever one? Never let it be said that the good ole views of Empire and some sort of supe.riority have ever died. Doubtless you are about to ask whether or not they have flied lice for dinner as well. What a character you are.

We should be proud that we're providing so many jobs in China!
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
thomasReply toJonno
These jobs could come here if you'd be willing to pay far more for your clothing, technology, and all sorts of goods that come from Asia. Ultimately, if these things were made here then we wouldn't buy them because they would be ridiculously expensive. We have seen the advances in technology we have because the costs have been driven down and forced innovation and improvement.

Can't believe China is making things for the Pentagon. Just cannot believe this stupidity!

These are people in a clean, safe, cutting edge factory, with JOBS, earning money while driving their family, local and global economies . The opportunity to work, working conditions, and pay are ever improving, driven by market forces. Should they be sitting at home demanding free everything for the government like socialist Europe?

Aye right. China's present regime is no more "communist" than the US is "communist".

This a reminder of how dangerous this nation is. Never mind Russia , Isis etc . These people are the real enemies. Both militarily and economically .

This is how factories should be run. If we had run our car manufacturing plants we would have a wonderful industrial base. Unfortunately the car factories were staffed by union loving, militant red commies - so they all failed. It is their grandchildren who are now unemployed.

It is called a disciplined workforce.Common in many emerging economies in Asia.

I know, I know. Damn young folk and their trendy lefty socialist teachers. Long live discipline and respect for your betters. Just like in the Good Ole Days. All that's missing is a jolly company song to keep them going....something like "One Company, One Folk" would do them the world of good.

manual work is slowly decreasing, Apple and the tech company are providing jobs, however it is the working environment which is borderline slavery. You go work there and see how you feel at the end of the day.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
John SmithReply toJohn Smith
Again Jamiesonn, what else are you going to do? Everybody quotes the 'slave-like' conditions... Yet everybody wants cheap goods! Everything that is manufactured, is produced somewhere, somehow... That effort gives goods a certain dollar-value! So until you DO throw your phone in the bin... Or don't eat Peanut butter with Palm-Oil in it etc etc... YOUR consumables are the same as mine (no matter how you feel about it!!!)

China is a socialist country. I just thought I would point that out in response to your anti-capitalist rant there. Compare these workers to ones in the US at Texas Instruments, a capitalist company in a capitalist society. See which workers are happier, treated better, and have better lives.
[ 0 ] [ 0 ]
MalcolmRitchieReply toj.o.h.n.
China is no more "socialist" than the US is. Not any more. It's gone full blooded into the sort of consumerism, exhibition of wealth....for a minority - society that lauded and worshipped in the States and some parts of the UK. And this is a capitalist, US corporation, which has no qualms whatsoever to turning a blind eye to the sorts of obscenities that that sort of greed and worship breeds. And did it all with the assistance and support of the Bush Corp which ran the US for a spell. Just thought I'd point that out.
