EVERYONE who has studied this knows that the passenger jet was shot down by a Ukrainian fighter jet. There were numerous witnesses and aerial photos at the time. But the UK and US governments just keep trotting out the same anti-Russian cold war propaganda.

Either way, that plane shouldn't have been flying over a conflict zone

The US being party to blowing up a passenger airline would certainly not be surprising in the least....

Ukraine gives all data that they have to ICAO and to international investigation group, open your eyes and read the ICAO and IIG Reports. They only not post the fake pictures of SU-24 like russian defense forces generals.

This conspiracy theory has been going around since more or less the first pictures of the wreckage came out. There are those who claim the damage to the cockpit area was caused by a fighter's cannon rather than the shrapnel from a missile detonation.

Yes the Russians will do anything and tell any lie to cover the facts, this is standard Russian practise for centuries now.

Not in million years would a 30mm cannon cause that extent of damage. Not to mention that the 30mm cannon rounds are designed to penertrate the aircraft before shredding so the fuselage would show hundreds of small exit holes with the metal bent outwards. The BuK works like a huge shotgun she'll shredding the aircraft from the out side. That's why the fuselage looks just like the russian aircraft shot down by Georgia. They used a BuK.

This is a BBC report. They are infamous for their anti-Russia reporting. Why would they say this now?

I'm with Roger. From the very first images of the cockpit area it was obvious it was not brought down by canon fire.

Actually, BBC is infamous for their anti -Ukrainian reporting. In fact several years ago they were forced to even apologize to Ukrainian government for putting up a false , anti- Ukrainian report on their website. Guess who provided them this report ? Yup, the Russians and this was even before all these fights.

Only an idiot would red arrow my comment. Find the photos of the cockpit area that were in the media within days and tell me how canon fire would account for the multiple perforations in the outer skin.

Russia said there were 2 other planes tailing M17 but it was never mentioned in the western media. Ukraine had the means and the motive (getting sanctions placed on Russia)

It would make more sense, the Russians had nothing to gain, but the Ukrainians did, then blame Russia

just sceptical: According to the yanks, Russia is ALWAYS to blame. What purgatory meant is that IF the Americans had the proof that the Russians were to blame, they would have released the data a long time back. Something about this whole affair tells me that the Yanks aren't blameless in this sad sorry affair.....

I'm not a member of Putin's fan club. I simply try to see everything with my own eyes and to think with my own head. Every crime has its beneficiary party and its motives. Please, tell me please at least one cause for pro-Russian rebels to commit such crime? But at least three causes for American owners of the Ukrainian democracy to do this was named in this article. I thing, witnesses were saying something about two aircrafts earlier, but nobody was listening to them.

When a Buk ground to air missile is launched it is like watching the space shuttle take off. A massive white trail of "smoke" that would go all the way to 35 000 feet where it is supposed to have struck the airliner. And it would take perhaps as long as ten minutes for this smoke trail to disperse. It would be visible for ten, twenty miles or more. Imagine one of these going up and striking an airplane over the UK. You'd see it from half the country. And yet, not a SINGLE person witnessed this event. And even more strangely, with all the satellites the West would have had focused on this war region - not a single photograph was taken. Or a single radar record.

There was certainly lots of cell footage of the immediate aftermath.

utter garbage. The smoke trail would disperse very quickly. There's videos on YouTube. Found one, and the trail was already very weakly defined on the camera footage after only 30 seconds. It would have taken a couple of minutes for the aircraft to hit the ground, which is when the filming starts, and it's very unlikely that a smoke trail would be visible at that point. An air attack as described in this article is utterly fanciful. An air launched missile would be small and likely a heat seeker. It would have therefore hit the engines - not the forward fuselage, and would not have been likely to bring the aircraft down as suddenly as it did. A Korean passenger aircraft was shot down in the early 80s by air to air missiles. It flew for some time before coming down. Cannon fire is just preposterous. The wreckage and everything would have been riddled with clues and since it came down in rebel/Russian territory it would be easily proven.

Guy - I disagree, a Buk ground to air missile is a weapon of war, it is not a space shuttle! The propellant is specially formulated to reduce the amount of smoke as much as possible. It is designed to be used as close as possible to the battle! Radar is not as "all encompassing" as you make it out to be. Highly professional air accident investigators have published their findings for all to see, but most people commenting here (and I suspect even the BBC journalists) have not taken the time to look at these, but are more than willing to quote Internet conspiracy theories!

I'm going with CIA under Obama. They hate Russia because of its resistance to the EU BS. Barry's current trip to oppose Brexit supports that. It's all NWO BS that Putin thumbs his nose at. The Russians are not the enemy.

This is hardly news for anyone who reads free media rather than the managed mainstream media of the press and BBC. There were 30mm cannon holes in the downed airliner - obviously not from a Russian BUK missile, but from a Ukrainian (ie NATO) fighter jet.

The West were desperate to blame and have us believe pro Russian Ukranians, or at least a Russian supplied missile did the job. But of course, any one with half a brian knows its nonsense. The real enemy of Europe is the current POTUS and the eu with its expansionist ideas

It was not the US. Most likely the Ukrainians, hoping to pin the blame on Russia, backed by the US who rather conveniently had all their satellites looking the wrong way !!

So the Russian is telling the truth all a long. The Ukrainian and the West are lying to cover up the killing of almost 300 innocent civilians. I think The Hague will have a case to follow up.

Same as 911 really. Shoot up some civilians, point a finger of blame and let public indignation and rage allow you to curtail personal freedoms and start very profitable wars all in the name of terror prevention. How did ISIS come to power? Because the West meddled in the running of the middle east and why did the West meddle in the middle east? Because Sadam dared to sell oil in euros not dollars. Why is oil sold in dollars? Because of a deal done with Saudi Arabia, once the Worlds largest producer. In exchange for making the dollar the currency of oil the Saudis got arms and protection from our best mates the Americans. Cue the first Iraq war to protect Saudi interests.
